May 18, 2015 – New investors, comprising half a dozen family offices and prominent private equity professionals from Europe and the United States, joined Palico’s historic shareholders, including founder Antoine Drean, in this latest funding round, which closed today on $7.3 million in equity. Palico’s private equity marketplace has raised $19.2 million, including its initial start-up capital in 2011. Palico is the only regulated private equity marketplace that puts accredited investors into direct contact with fund managers, sponsors of co-investments and sellers of secondary stakes. In addition to one-on-one conversations, its secure, encrypted technology permits the exchange of water-marked private placement documents between qualified sponsors and accredited investors.
“This latest funding ensures that Palico has plenty of firepower to pursue its long-term development and strengthen its first-mover advantage,” says founder and chief executive Antoine Drean. “Given the rapid diversification of private equity opportunities by geography, specialization and structure, better information exchange and direct online access to otherwise hard-to-reach counterparties is essential for the healthy growth of the industry. Palico uses cutting-edge technology to deliver these key ingredients to the world’s private equity professionals. Palico is creating a more efficient and lucrative asset class for all.”
The latest funding comes at a time of exponential growth for Palico’s marketplace, with membership on pace to exceed 100,000 within a year. New initiatives and services targeting institutional investors and individuals are expected to further accelerate Palico’s growth. Enriched services for the buying and selling of secondaries and the roll-out of new analysis tools will also enhance Palico’s value proposition and platform growth. “We are creating a virtuous circle,” says Drean. “As we continue to help private equity grow, over the next few years we believe Palico will attract hundreds of thousands members.”
