TLC Laser Eye Centers Acquires Toronto-Based Yonge Eglinton Laser Eye Centre
Announces plans to expand area’s LASIK, laser cataract options
TORONTO, OCT. 9 – TLC Laser Eye Centers®, Ontario’s premier provider of LASIK and refractive eye care services, today announced the acquisition of Yonge Eglinton Laser Eye Centre, a leading LASIK provider in the greater Toronto area (GTA).
The acquisition immediately enhances TLC’s already exceptional team of Ontario laser eye surgeons (including Drs. Nick Nianiaris, Dean Smith, Ike Ahmed, Hugh Jellie, Brad McCuaig and Bruce Nichols) with the addition of several highly recognized and uniquely accomplished surgeons from Yonge Eglinton: Drs. David Rootman, Allan Slomovic, Neera Singal, Theodore Rabinovitch, Clara Chan, Arnold Kravetz and Nicholas Skouras. This group, which represents the area’s most experienced and advanced refractive surgery team in the GTA, will soon work out of a new, state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Toronto. Opening later this year, the center will offer GTA residents a range of vision treatment options such as LASIK, laser cataract surgery, Avedro corneal collagen cross-corneal-linking, corneal inlays and much more.
The advanced facility will also feature a dual-laser platform that includes the new Allegretto Wavelight EX 500® and VISX STAR S4 IR™. Having two of the world’s most advanced lasers allows the experienced surgeons at TLC to deliver the treatment best suited for the complexities of any patient.
“In 20 years with TLC, this is the most significant development I have seen in providing the best care for our refractive patients,” Dr. Nianiaris said.
This acquisition is one of many steps we are taking to expand our patient services offering in the greater Toronto area,” said George Neal, Chief Executive Officer. “The combination of a great team of surgeons and center staff, a strong optometric referral network, new technology, an exceptional reputation for safety and clinical outcomes, and a “Gold Standard” patient experience continue to reinforce our position as Ontario’s refractive surgery leader.”
TLC’s expansion comes at a time when an aging population is generating a higher demand for laser cataract surgery while laser vision correction such as LASIK is becoming more popular among younger adults.
Before this acquisition, TLC Laser Eye Centers® held a strong presence in Ontario with four locations and more throughout Canada. The first TLC center was established in Windsor in 1993 when laser vision correction was relatively new. Over the years, TLC has grown into North America’s most experienced LASIK provider, having performed more than 2.2 million laser vision correction procedures at nearly 50 locations throughout Canada and the United States.
TLC offers complimentary LASIK and cataract-surgery consultations to anyone interested. These can be scheduled online at www.TLCVision.com by phone at 1-877-852-2020 or through the patient’s primary eye doctor.
