Ropes & Gray has combined forces with Reboul, MacMurray, Hewitt & Maynard, a New York-based law firm focused on private equity. The pairing, effective as of earlier this week, substantially increases Ropes & Gray’s New York office and adds significant depth to its private equity practice.

Rib-X Pharmaceuticals Inc., a New Haven, Conn.-based biotech company focused on anti-infective products, has raised $63.5 million in Series B funding. Warburg Pincus led the deal with a $31 million investment, and was joined by return backers Axiom Venture Partners, Cardinal Partners, Connecticut Innovations, EuclidSR Partners, Oxford Bioscience Partners, S.R. One Ltd. and Zero Stage Capital.

Carl Eibl has joined Enterprise Partners as a managing director and chief operating officer. He previously served as president and CEO of Maxwell Technologies (Nasdaq: MXWL).

PharmaNetics Inc., a Morrisville, N.C.-based biotech company combining diagnostics with therapeutics, has raised $9.58 million in new funding. Camden Partners led the deal, and was joined by BayStar Capital.

Paul Wythes, a founding partner of Sutter Hill Ventures, yesterday received the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) Lifetime Achievement Award at an award ceremony in New York.
