


Pentti Karkkainen, co-founder and general partner at Canadian energy-focused private equity firm KERN Partners, has assumed at new role at the firm. Karkkainen will transition from his management role and position on KERN’s internal boards to become co-founder and senior strategy adviser. The new role will give him a spot on KERN’s independent advisory board and allow him to continue representing the firm on the boards of directors of several portfolio companies. Founded in 2000, the Calgary-based KERN has $1.1 billion under direct management and an additional $1.5 billion in its co-investment program.

KERN Co-Founder Assumes New Role
CALGARY, July 7, 2014 /CNW/ – The Board of Directors of KERN Partners Ltd. announced today that Pentti Karkkainen, Co-Founder and General Partner has assumed a new role within the firm. Pentti is transitioning from his active day to day role to a strategic and capital markets advisory role. In his new position as Co-Founder and Senior Strategy Advisor, Pentti will step down from KERN’s internal boards to join the firm’s Independent Advisory Board. Pentti will also continue to represent KERN on the board of directors of a number of portfolio companies.
Pentti co-founded KERN with the expectation and commitment that it was going to be a multi-generational firm.
