Revelry Brands Buys Into Data Garden

Revelry Brands has acquired a minority stake in Data Garden, a New York-based provider of data analytics to natural food brands. No financial terms were disclosed.

Revelry Brands (Revelry), a Boulder, Colorado-based investment firm focused on providing growth-stage private equity to unique, innovative businesses in the natural foods and consumer products categories, announced today that it had acquired a minority stake in Data Garden.

Data Garden is a New York City-based data analytics company dedicated to helping natural food brands capture vendor sales data in a manner that provides immediate and measurable improvements in efficiency, trackable cost savings, and improved business planning. Data Garden has developed a unique code process that analyzes raw vendor sales data, standardizes it into a reporting data model, and provides multiple reports including average price and sales information and demo and promotion profitability. Data Garden delivers this advanced business analytics via cloud computing—a web browser that delivers the data to the client—which requires no installation effort, IT staff, or technology investment on the part of the client.

Revelry’s investment closed on July 30, 2010. Data Garden will use Revelry’s investment to grow sales, expand existing marketing, and increase awareness of its business and its technology.

“We are excited to be investing in a technology company that is still well-aligned with our mission to focus on businesses in the natural foods and consumer packaged goods arenas,” said Brendan Synnott, Founder of Revelry Brands. “Jeff Goldberg and Jamie Sidey, the founders of Data Garden, have built their business ready to scale.  While they currently work with a single source of data for natural consumer brands, their platform can be expanded to perform a full integration of a company’s data across multiple channels.  This type of smart building from the start is of high value to Revelry Brands, and our investors.”

Revelry Brands’ experience in the consumer packaged goods industry will provide Data Garden with the additional insight needed to expand their business and build out their platform to increasingly provide the type of data analytics natural foods brands need to be more efficient and profitable. Synnott has spent the majority of his business career as a successful entrepreneur dedicated to guiding lifestyle brands to their growth potential. In 2002, he co-founded the healthy snack company, Bear Naked, and within five years, grew the company to become the market leader in the granola category, both in market share and growth. As a result, Kellogg acquired Bear Naked in 2007.
