Ropes & Gray Adds To Chicago PE Team

Andrew Terry has joined the Chicago office of Ropes & Gray as a partner in the law firm's private equity group. He previously was with Kirkland & Ellis. Also joining are Justin Choi, counsel coming over from Andrew Corp. and Neill Jakobe, senior associate who previously worked in Morgan Stanley's financial sponsors group.

Ropes & Gray is pleased to announce that Andrew J. Terry will join the firm's Chicago office on July 1 as a new partner in the private equity group. Joining Terry in the Chicago office, which serves the firm's growing base of clients in Chicago and the entire Midwest region, are Justin C. Choi and Neill P. Jakobe. The three attorneys are the latest high-profile additions to Ropes & Gray's Chicago office, which was launched in February when James T. Lidbury, Jonathan M. Grandon and Deborah A. Monson joined as partners from Mayer Brown.

Terry joins Ropes & Gray from Kirkland & Ellis, LLP, where he began his career in 1998. Terry has counseled numerous publicly traded companies, leveraged buyout and private equity funds, and their portfolio companies in both transactions and general corporate matters. His principal areas of focus include public and private securities offerings, mergers, acquisitions, and buyouts, and general corporate and securities law advice. Terry is admitted to the bar in Illinois. He received his B.A. from Indiana University and his M.B.A. and J.D. degrees from Indiana University Kelley School of Business and Indiana University School of Law, respectively.

With a strong legal and business background, Choi has served since 2006 as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for Andrew Corporation, a $2.2 billion publicly traded company. Previously, he was with Avaya in senior legal and M&A capacities. He was also general counsel for Lucent Technologies' New Ventures Group and provided legal counsel on M&A transactions. He began his career in 1990 at Paul Hastings. He is admitted to the bar in Illinois. He received his B.A. degree from The Johns Hopkins University and his J.D. degree from Northwestern University

Jakobe joins Ropes & Gray from Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc. where he served in the Financial Sponsors Group working with a number of private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies. He was with Mayer Brown from 2002 to 2007. He received his B.A. in Finance and Business Economics from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He is admitted to the bar of Illinois.
