That’s the rumor rampaging through private equity circles, but peHUB has learned that it’s untrue. Maybe the speculation was started by someone close to BlackRock, in order to help the giant asset manager better negotiate the acquisition of some other firm (kind of like when similar rumors began about Merrill Lynch/Harbvourvest in 2004, shortly before Merrill also was said to be interested in Man Group).
Or perhaps HarbourVest has held informal acquisition talks, just not with BlackRock.
For its part, HarbourVest declined comment. BlackRock could not be reached.
HarbourVest has experienced some senior management changes over the past several years, with senior managing directors Ed Kane and Kevin Delbridge transitioning into senior advisory roles. The only remaining senior managing director is firm co-founder Brooks Zug, although HarbourVest recently made several promotions to managing director.
