Former Visa executive Rupert Keeley is joining PayPal to run the company’s Asia Pacific operations. PayPay President Scott Thompson announced the news on the company’s blog Thursday. In his new role, Keeley will help build the company’s staff and expand operations across China and throughout Japan and Australia.
I’m thrilled to tell you that Rupert Keeley, one of the top executives in the payments industry, will join PayPal to run our business in Asia Pacific.
I’ve known Rupert for many years, and I consider him one of the best executives that I’ve ever worked with. With 30 years of experience in the payments space, Rupert knows the industry inside and out and has built deep, trusting relationships across the region.
PayPal’s Asia Pacific business is growing faster than any other in the world, and we have so many opportunities everywhere we look. Cross-border trade remains a significant business for us as merchants in Greater China, the manufacturing hub of the world, sell to our more than 100 million active accounts in 190 markets worldwide. The e-commerce markets in Australia and Japan present both established and new domestic opportunities for us as we’re connecting local buyers with local merchants through faster, safer online payments. And with millions of new Internet users coming online in Southeast Asia and India, we’re introducing them to the benefits of online shopping with our nine million merchants across the world.
Rupert will drive our aggressive regional growth strategy, attract and develop great talent for our company, and enhance our relationships with key customers and partners across the region. Please join me in welcoming Rupert to PayPal!
We’re very excited to have him on our team and I look forward to his contributions which will help us continue to deliver the future of money.
