The Blackstone Group has added Sandy Ogg as an operating partner in its portfolio operations group. Ogg, who served most recently the chief human resources officer for Unilever, will be based in New York.
The Blackstone Group (NYSE: BX) today announced that Sandy Ogg has joined the firm as an Operating Partner in Blackstone’s Portfolio Operations Group, based in New York. Mr. Ogg’s primary responsibilities will be to promote leadership development, talent management, organizational effectiveness and best in class human resources practices across Blackstone’s 67 portfolio companies. Mr. Ogg was most recently the Chief Human Resources Officer for Unilever, a global leader in consumer products.
Commenting on Mr. Ogg’s appointment, Stephen A. Schwarzman, Blackstone’s Chairman and CEO, said: “Sandy has a long track record of accelerating business transformational change through the integration of strategy, culture, and leadership. I believe he will add significant value to the companies owned within our portfolios.”

Blackstone’s Portfolio Operations Group consists of 33 dedicated professionals and senior advisors, and an additional 31 operations support staff who advise the firm’s portfolio companies on implementing best practices in a variety of areas, including; revenue generating initiatives, sales force effectiveness, pricing discipline, state of the art technology and back office operations, joint purchasing programs, manufacturing excellence, lean process redesign, and health care initiatives to improve quality and lower cost for our portfolio companies.
Prior to his role at Unilever, Mr. Ogg was Senior Vice President, Leadership, Learning and Performance at Motorola. Before that he served as Managing Director of Dove Consulting and was Founder of the VIA Consulting Group. He began his career as a line officer in the U.S. Coast Guard conducting search and rescue at sea.
Mr. Ogg has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the United States Coast Guard Academy, a Masters in Human Development from The George Washington University and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is co-author of VIA, From Vision into Action, The Future of Organizational Learning and numerous articles on leadership and human resources. He has served on the Board of BBH Advertising, Rotterdam School of Management and Vice Chairman of the European Academy of Business and Society.
