Sankaty Advisors, one of the leading private managers of fixed income and credit instruments, today announced it has further enhanced its transaction sourcing efforts with the appointment of Eric Karp as a Senior Advisor. Karp will help Sankaty identify and pursue new credit investment opportunities, especially in the sponsored LBO space. Karp joins an experienced transaction flow team that includes Andrew Carlino, a Managing Director, who was recently named to coordinate Sankaty’s overall sourcing effort for debt opportunities; Tim Barns and Michael Bevacqua, two Managing Directors focused on identifying turnaround and distressed opportunities; and a sixteen-member group of professionals, led by Managing Director Michael Ewald, who are concentrated on middle-market transactions.
Karp has 25 years of experience in investment banking and capital markets. He was most recently Global Head of Financial Sponsors at Bank of America, where he served as a member of the Credit Commitment Committee, Investment Banking Management Committee and Principal Investment Committee.
“We have worked closely with Eric over many years, and look forward to his support in identifying attractive new investment opportunities,” said Jonathan Lavine, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Sankaty Advisors. “His broad transaction experience and deep market relationships are a great complement to our existing efforts, and will help us identify a wide array of transactions from sponsors and financial advisors.”
“I am excited to be joining one of the world’s preeminent investment firms, and a team of talented and accomplished professionals. I look forward to leveraging my relationships to help the firm source investment opportunities,” said Karp, who will be based in Sankaty’s New York office.
Prior to Bank of America, Karp held similar positions at JP Morgan and Bear Stearns. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science from State University of New York at Stony Brook.
