Slideshow: Colorado PERA Top-10 Performing Funds Since 1982

It’s not easy to crack the top-10 performing funds in the private equity portfolio of Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association, which has committed more than $10 billion to more than 200 domestic and international venture capital, buyout, funds of funds and other kinds of private equity funds since 1982.

In fact, it takes a 42.2 percent IRR, according to our analysis of performance data updated through December 31 available on the Colorado PERA website. Altogether, the pension fund invested $315.0 million in its top-10 performing funds, which together have generated more than $950 million in distributions, for a 3.1x cash-on-cash return. That doesn’t even count the value of remaining holdings in those funds. The top 10 date from vintage years 1993 to 2007.
