Investment management firm Spears Abacus has hired William W. Marden III as principal and portfolio manager. Previously, Marden worked at First Republic Investment Management where he served as a managing director and portfolio manager.
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Spears Abacus Advisors LLC (“the Firm” or “Spears Abacus”) announced today that William W. Marden III has joined the Firm as Principal and Portfolio Manager. Marden will be responsible for helping to expand the Firm’s fixed income capabilities and enhancing Spears Abacus’ client relationships.

Marden has over 29 years of experience in the investment management industry, having most recently served as a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at First Republic Investment Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) which, prior to 2007, was known as Trainer Wortham. For the past 14 years, while at First Republic, Marden helped develop and grow the bank’s fixed income capabilities, providing fixed income portfolio management advice to high net worth individuals, family offices, insurance companies and private pension plans. From 1993 to 2000, Marden held fixed income portfolio management positions at Peoples United Bank (1996-2000) and WP Capital Management (1993-1996). He began his investment management career at Bear Stearns where he held several positions from 1985 to 1993.
Marden graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and from Princeton University with a Master of Science degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Prior to attending college, he spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps completing his duty at the rank of Sergeant.
