CHEVY CHASE, Md., June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — WeddingWire, Inc., the leading global online marketplace in the weddings and events industry, announced today the acquisition of GayWeddings.com, the pioneering wedding planning resource for same-sex couples. GayWeddings.com will continue to empower engaged couples and LGBTQ-friendly wedding professionals as part of the growing WeddingWire family of brands in the weddings and events category.

WeddingWire and GayWeddings.com both provide resources to couples planning their unions, and to the professionals who wish to serve them. Since January 2011, the two sites have partnered to develop a rapidly-expanding online database of over 120,000 wedding professionals who serve same-sex couples.

“From the day each site was launched, WeddingWire and GayWeddings.com have shared a commitment to providing needed resources to all couples,” said Timothy Chi, co-founder and CEO, WeddingWire. “Same-sex weddings have been transforming the way wedding professionals think about their businesses and how engaged couples think about executing their wedding vision. We look forward to continued growth in creating a positive and helpful wedding planning experience for all couples and their wedding professionals as they plan the biggest day of their lives.”

There is no better time to celebrate our union than with an opportunity to raise a glass this Pride month to an LGBTQ-inclusive wedding market in the company of some of my favorites allies: my mom (GayWeddings.com founder), Tim and the rest of the WeddingWire team.”

Engaged couples can use GayWeddings.com to plan their same-sex wedding, with the largest database of inclusive wedding professionals, expert tips for hosting the event, the latest updates in marriage equality, and many other planning tools. Event professionals on WeddingWire can opt into the GayWeddings.com directory to show that they are ready, willing and able to serve LGBTQ couples.
