Star Mountain Capital brings on two as senior advisors

Co-founder of BlackRock Kelso Capital, Michael Lazar, and former chief HR officer of Fortress, Stanley Friedman, have joined Star Mountain Capital as senior advisors. Prior to co-founding BlackRock Kelso Capital, Lazar was partner and managing director of Kelso & Co. Friedman also worked on HR at King Street Capital and Amaranth.

Mike Lazar: Mr. Lazar is a Strategic Investor in Star Mountain. Mr. Lazar co-founded BlackRock Kelso Capital Corporation (“BKCC”), a private credit-focused publicly traded investment fund, where he served on its Investment Committee, Board of Directors and as COO. Previously, he was a Partner and Managing Director at Kelso & Company, one of the oldest and most established firms specializing in private equity investing. Prior to joining Kelso, he worked in the Acquisition Finance Group at Chemical Securities (predecessor to J.P. Morgan Securities), where he focused on leveraged buyouts. Mr. Lazar has served as Co-Chair of the Leadership Council of the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia University Medical Center and serves as a Trustee of the Rye Country Day School, as well as President of the Rye Country Day School Alumni Executive Board. Mr. Lazar previously served as a member of the Dartmouth College Fund Committee and as a Director of the New York Division of the March of Dimes.

Stan Friedman: Stan is a former Managing Director and Chief HR Officer for Fortress where he built an HR function that facilitated growth from approximately 550 to 1,100 employees and $26 billion to $56 billion in AUM. Stan’s experience also includes Director of HR for King Street Capital a global investment management firm with particular focus on distressed debt and credit with $22 billion in AUM; and, Global Head of HR for Amaranth, a global multi-strategy hedge fund, where he facilitated the growth from approximately $4 billion to $10 billion in AUM and 225 employees to 425 employees. Stan is the Founder of Alpha HC Consulting where he advises senior executives at hedge funds and private equity firms.
