Stein Jumps to Golden Gate Capital

Jared Stein has joined Golden Gate Capital, sources say.

Stein is part of Golden Gate’s retail, restaurant and consumer products group. He joined the San Francisco PE firm on March 5 and is a vice president, a person says. He most recently worked at Huntsman Gay Global Capital where he was a senior associate. He left Huntsman approximately two weeks ago, a different source says. Stein also spent two years at Bain Capital, according to LinkedIn.

A Golden Gate spokeswoman confirmed that Stein joined the PE firm. Golden Gate has an active retail, restaurant and consumer group. Last year, it acquired California Pizza Kitchen for about $470 million. Golden Gate, in 2010, also bought On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina for $180 million. The buyout shop also acquired  J. Jill brands from Talbots for a reported $75 million in 2009.
