Sun Capital’s Kalb Headed to UK

Signaling a continued interest in striking deals on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, Boca Raton, Fla.-based Sun Capital Partners is shifting senior managing director Michael Kalb from the U.S. to the U.K.

Kalb is one of Sun Capital’s longer-tenured execs. He joined the investment firm in 1999 and, according to Sun’s website, has been responsible for over 45 investments.

Sun launched its European arm in 2005 and progressively has done more deals outside of the U.S.

Last year, among more than a dozen deals it did in Europe, Sun Capital bought into Dutch retailer V&D; La Place, an organic store; Alcan Packaging Beauty, a cosmetic products maker; Prodac NV, a Belgian steel merchant; and Fabricas Agrupadas de Munecas de Onil, a Spanish toymaker.

This February, the PE shop bought NextPharma Technologies in the U.K.

peHUB will report back later today with an update after we speak with Sun Capital.
