Sutherland Asbill & Brennan boosts financial services practice with new hire

Law firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan said Tuesday that it has hired Yasho Lahiri as a partner in the firm’s financial services practice. Lahiri, who is based in New York, previously worked at Baker Botts where he was a partner.


NEW YORK, January 21, 2014 — Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that Yasho Lahiri, who advises clients on the formation of and investment in alternative investment funds, has joined the firm’s Financial Services Practice in New York as a partner. He previously was a partner at Baker Botts.
Mr. Lahiri has helped investment advisory firms launch a broad range of investment funds with investors in the United States and throughout the world. His experience encompasses the entire fund-raising process, including structuring and forming the fund, drafting the subscription and offering documents, and helping the fund raise capital.

Mr. Lahiri regularly represents institutional investors in hedge funds, private equity funds, derivative instruments and other complex financial products. He regularly counsels clients in transactions relating to the alternative investment industry or financial markets, as well as securities and commodities regulatory and enforcement matters. His clients range from sovereign entities and leading asset management firms, to U.S. and non-U.S. financial institutions and individuals.
Prior to joining Baker Botts, Mr. Lahiri was general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer at a hedge fund for four years. He received his J.D. from the Fordham University School of Law and a B.A. in Economics from Emory University.
