Unicorn Stemcentrx emerges from stealth

Heavily backed Stemcentrx, a South San Francisco-based developer of cancer therapies, has emerged from stealth and announced it raised a $250 million funding round last month, led by the mutual fund Fidelity Investments. The company, which was first backed by ARTIS Ventures four years ago, has now raised $500 million in funding and is reportedly valued at $3 billion. Other investors include Founders Fund.


ARTIS seeds IoT startup Stringify

Los Gatos, Calif.-based startup Stringify, which calls itself an Internet of Everything company, announced it has come out of stealth and raised $6.3 million in seed funding led by ARTIS Ventures. OurCrowd and other private investors also participated in the funding. The company was co-founded by CEO Mike Yurochko, CTO Dave Evans and CCO Yaron Sheba. Evans was most recently at Cisco, where he served as the chief futurist, blogging about the Internet of Things.


AI company Quid raises $39 mln in round led by Liberty Interactive

San Francisco-based Quid, an artificial intelligence company which provides information analytics software, has raised a $39 million Series D round of funding. Liberty Interactive Corporation led the funding, with participation from ARTIS Ventures, Buchanan Investments, Subtraction Capital, Tiger Partners, Thomas H. Lee Limited Family Partnership II, as well as Quid board member Michael Patsalos-Fox and Quid Chairman and founding investor Charles Lho. The company previously raised a $10 million Series C round and has altogether raised $60 million in funding.


ARTIS leads funding in food content provider ChefsFeed

ChefsFeed, a provider of food-related content and food culture as curated by top chefs, announced it has raised a $4 million Series A round. ARTIS Ventures led the funding, which included Structure Capital, Haas Portman and Subtraction Capital, as well as individual investors. The San Francisco-based company previously raised about $4 million combined in seed rounds.


Artis Ventures raises $51.7 mln for second fund

Artis Ventures said it has raised $51.7 million for a second fund, Artis Ventures II, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The fund has a $3.3 million stake yet to sell and a target of $55 million.

Practice Fusion raises $70 mln from Kleiner Perkins, OrbiMed, Deerfield

Healthcare records management company Practice Fusion, which is aiming to grow its healthcare platform, has raised a $70 million Series D round of funding led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and institutional investors OrbiMed Advisors and Deerfield Management Co. Existing investors, including Artis Ventures, also participated in the round, which brings the total amount raised by the San Francisco-based company to $134 million. As part of the funding, Beth Seidenberg, general partner at Kleiner Perkins, has joined the company board.

Medical Records Manager Practice Fusion Dials Up $34M Round

Practice Fusion, which operates an electronic medical record platform for 150,000 medical providers, has raised a $34 million Series C round of funding led by Artis Ventures. Other investors in the round include Felicis Ventures, Band of Angels, Founders Fund, Morgenthaler Ventures and SV Angel. among other institutional and individual investors. The company says it has now raised $64 million in total funding since it was launched in 2007.
