D-Wave Systems snags C$29 mln

D-Wave Systems Inc, a quantum computing company headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia, has secured C$29 million in funding. The investors in this round were not named; however, D-Wave’s previous backers include Bezos Expeditions, BDC Capital, DFJ, Goldman Sachs, Growthworks, Harris & Harris Group, In-Q-Tel, International Investment and Underwriting and Kensington Partners Limited.


CTI Life Sciences collects C$134 mln for second venture fund

Montreal-based CTI Life Sciences has raised C$134 million in the first close of its second venture fund. The pool’s limited partners include Teralys Capital and BDC Capital via the Government of Canada’s Venture Capital Action Plan. CTI II will invest mostly in biotherapeutics.


BitHound pulls in $2 mln seed

BitHound has received over $2 million in seed funding. The investors included Michael Wekerle of Difference Capital and BDC Capital. Headquartered in Kitchener, Ontario, BitHound is a software analytics solutions provider.


LeddarTech ropes in $7 mln

LeddarTech has raised $7 million in funding. BDC Capital and GO Capital led the round. Based in Quebec, LeddarTech provides advanced detection and ranging systems based on sensing technology.


Montreal-based Execution Labs snags C$6 mln Series A

Montreal-based Execution Labs, a game accelerator and investment platform, has received C$6 million in Series A funding. Corus Entertainment led the round with participation from return backers BDC Capital, Real Ventures and White Star Capital. In addition to the funding, Execution Labs has added Scott Dyer of Corus to its board.


AppMakr acquires rival VC-backed Appifier

App building platform AppMakr has bought Montreal-based rival Appifier. No financial terms were disclosed. Appifier was backed by BDC Capital and The National Research Council of Canada.


REGEN Energy closes Series B funding round on over $12 mln

REGEN Energy Inc., which provides a wireless smart grid technology platform for building owners to manage electrical demand, has closed its Series B funding round on more than $12 million. The funding round was led by new investors including a U.S. utility company, Export Development Canada and EnerTech Capital, and was supported by existing REGEN investors BDC Capital and NGEN Partners.


Blinq Networks raises $15.1 mln

Blinq Networks said Monday it raised $15.1 million in Series B funding led by the Win Fund. Kensington Global Private Equity Fund is a new investor. Existing investors BDC Capital, New Venture Partners and Summerhill Venture Partners also participated in the round. Plano, Texas-based Blinq, which has raised $32.5 million in total financing, provides network services that help mobile operators deliver mobile broadband services in high density areas.


Xagenic rakes in $25.5 mln Series B

Toronto-based molecular diagnostics firm Xagenic said Monday that it has closed $25.5 million in Series B funding. New backer BDC Capital joined the round. In addition to the financing, Dion Madsen, senior managing partner at BDC Capital, has been added to Xagenic’s board of director.

Beyond the Rack Racks up $36M Equity Round

Canadian e-tailer Beyond the Rack reeled in $36 million in VC bucks from investors Panorama Capital, the California VC that read the round, and other investors Export Development Canada, Tandem Expansion Fund, Rho Canada, Inovia Capital, Highland Capital Partners and BDC Capital. Shahan Soghikian, a MD with Panorama Capital, will join Beyond the Rack’s board.

Whatsnexx Raises $2.4M in VC

Montreal-based marketing automation software developer Whatsnexx has raised $2.4 million in financing from GO Capital LP and the Business Development Bank of Canada‘s venture capital arm, among other investors. GO Capital focuses on Quebec seed-stage technology firms in the fields of cleantech, information technologies and life sciences.

Trillium Adds $1M for Clinical Trials

Biopharmaceutical company Trillium Therapeutics Inc. has closed on $1 million in equity financing from a new, undisclosed investor. The funds will help Trillium support clinical trials for a treatment for interstitial cystitis, also known as bladder pain syndrome. Toronto-based Trillium has previously raised funding from investors including Vengrowth Private Equity Partners, Growthworks Capital and BDC Capital.
