Big Switch Networks racks up $48.5 mln

Santa Clara, California-based Big Switch Networks, a provider of hyperscale-inspired networking technologies to data centers, has raised $48.5 million in total funding. The investors included Morgenthaler Ventures, Silver Lake Waterman, Index Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Accton, CID Group and MSD Capital. In addition to the funding, Dan Warmenhoven, former CEO at NetApp and Gary Morgenthaler to Big Switch’s board of directors.

Big Switch Networks Adds Intel Capital As An Investor

Big Switch Networks said that Intel Capital has joined the company’s Series B funding, bringing the total raised to date to over $45 million. Big Switch investors include Goldman Sachs, Index Ventures, Khosla Ventures and Redpoint Ventures. The company initially announced a Series B of $25 million in October with Redpoint leading the deal. It raised a Series A round of $14 million in 2011.

Big Switch Networks said it raised $25 million of Series B funding in a deal led by Redpoint Ventures and joined by Goldman Sachs and existing investors Index Ventures, Khosla Ventures, and others. Big Switch Networks closed a $14 million Series A funding in March of 2011 and has raised $39 million to date. It will use the funding to expand engineering, sales and marketing teams.
