Powervation grabs $7 mln in debt and equity funding

Intelligent digital power firm Powervation, which is headquartered in Ireland, has raised $7 million in debt and equity financing. Ares Capital agreed to provide $3 million in debt funding while Powervation’s return backers that include Scottish Equity Partners, Braemar Energy Ventures, Intel Capital, VentureTech, 4th Level Ventures and Semtech Corp, are providing $4 million in equity funding.


Braemar backs 3D printer maker Voxel8

Voxel8 has received funding from Braemar Energy Ventures. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in Somerville, Mass., Voxel8 is a 3D electronics printer creator.


Braemar Energy Ventures founding partner passes away

Dr. George S. Reichenbach, a founding partner at Braemar Energy Ventures, died on October 6. He was 85. In addition to his work at Braemar Energy Ventures, Dr. Reichenbach was an initial partner at Advent International where he oversaw the firm’s investments in energy technology. And prior to that, he worked at Norton Company where he managed two divisions.


Braemar Energy Ventures leads Series D round for Next Step Living

Next Step Living said Wednesday that it has raised $25 million in Series D funding. Braemar Energy Ventures led the round with participation from previous backers that included VantagePoint Capital Partners and Black Coral Capital. Headquartered in Boston, Next Step Living is a provider of home energy solutions in New England.


ChargePoint nabs $22.6 mln

ChargePoint has received $22.6 million in funding. Investors in this round included Rho Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Braemar Energy Ventures, Siemens Venture Capital GmbH, Voyager Capital and BMW. Headquartered in Campbell, Calif., ChargePoint is an open electric vehicle charging network.

VC-backed Utilidata names MacDermott as chief information security officer

Utilidata has hired Siobhan MacDermott as chief information security officer. Previously, MacDermott worked at AVG Technologies where she served as chief policy officer. Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, Utilidata is a provider of voltage optimization and digital automation solutions for the electric utility industry. Its backers include Formation 8 Partners, Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures, Braemar Energy Ventures and American Electric Power.


Bill Gates-backed EcoMotors buys Katech

Motor technology developer EcoMotors has acquired Katech. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in Michigan, Katech is a maker of advanced engines and powertrains. Also, EM has named Tony Mannarino as CEO of Katech. EM is backed by Khosla Ventures, Bill Gates and Braemar Energy Ventures.

Braemer Energy Ventures Leads $3.5 Mln Round for Proterro

Proterro said Monday it completed a $3.5 million financing round led by current investor Braemar Energy Ventures. Cultivian Ventures and Middleland Capital joined as new investors, with other existing investors, Battelle Ventures and its affiliate, Innovation Valley Partners, also participating in the round. Proterro, of Ewing, N.J., makes sucrose instead of extracting it from crops.

Sefaira Raises $10.8M From Braemar, Chrysalix SET, Hermes

NexSteppe Inks $14M Second Round: CORRECTED

NexSteppe, a developer of sustainable feedstock solutions for the biofuels, biopower and biobased products industries, has raised $16 $14 million. Braemar Energy Ventures led the second round for NexSteppe. As a result, Dennis Costello, a partner at Braemar Energy Ventures, has joined the company’s board. Returning investors CYM Ventures and Zygote Ventures also participated.

Stion Lands $130M For Solar Modules

Stion, a manufacturer of thin-film solar modules, has raised $130 million in equity financing led by AVACO and Korean private equity funds. Existing investors Khosla Ventures, Taiwan Semiconductor, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Braemar Energy Ventures and General Catalyst Partners all participated in the round, the company said. The money will help Stion continue a planned expansion of its manufacturing facility in Hattiesburg, Miss. The company will also put $35 million into a Korean manufacturing subsidiary. Stion is based in San Jose, Calif.

Proterro Adds Directors

Harrison F. Dillon, Thomas Dries, and Christos Papadopoulos will join Proterro’s board of directors. The company develops Protose, a feedstock that enables the production of biofuels. Founded in 2008, the company is backed by Battelle Ventures and Braemar Energy Ventures.
