Talena snaps up $12 mln

Silicon Valley-based Talena, a provider of big data availability management solutions, has raised $12 million in funding. The companies backers include Canaan Partners, Intel Capital, ONSET Ventures and Wipro Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Deepak Kamra, a general partner at Canaan and Shomit Ghose, a partner at ONSET, have been added to Talena’s board of directors.

Antiva Biosciences nabs $16 mln Series B

Biopharmaceutical company Antiva Biosciences Inc has secured $16 million in Series B funding. Canaan Partners and Sofinnova Ventures led the round. In conjunction with the funding, Wende Hutton, a general partner at Canaan Partner and David Kabakoff, an executive partner at Sofinnova Ventures, have been added to Antiva’s board of directors. Also, the company has named Gail Maderis as president and CEO and Steven P. James as executive chairman of the board.

PE-backed RealtyMogul.com taps Li as chief information officer

Los Angeles-based RealtyMogul.com, an online marketplace for real estate investment, has named Timothy Li as chief information officer. Previously, Li has worked at a number of firms in the marketplace lending and FinTech sectors that included LoanDepot, Quick Bridge Funding, Think Finance and JPMorgan Chase. RealtyMogul.com is backed by Sorenson Capital and Canaan Partners.

Luxury home hospitality business onefinestay has closed $40 million in Series D funding. The investors included Intel Capital, Quadrant Capital Advisors, Index Ventures and Canaan Partners. Also, the company has made a number of appointments, among them are Tom Singer as chief financial officer, Nick Ruotolo as chief commercial officer and Petros Demetriades as chief technology officer.

Novartis to buy Spinifex for $200 mln

Novartis International AG has agreed to buy Spinifex Pharmaceuticals Inc. for an upfront cash consideration of $200 million plus undisclosed clinical development and regulatory milestone payments. based in Stamford, Connecticut and Melbourne, Australia, Spinifex develops drugs for the treatment of chronic pain. Deutsche Bank advised Spinifex. Spinifex’s investors include Novo A/S, Canaan Partners, GBS Venture Partners, Brandon Capital Partners, Uniseed and UniQuest (University of Queensland, Australia).

Borro raises $19.5 mln

Borro said Tuesday it has raised $19.5 million in funding led by OurCrowd and Rocket Internet. OurCrowd contributed more than $6 million of the capital raised while Rocket Internet increased its stake in Borro to 10 percent. Existing investors Canaan Partners, Eden Ventures and Augmentum Capital also participated in the round, the statement said. New York-based Borro allows individuals to use luxury assets –including fine art, antiques, jewelry, luxury watches, fine wine, prestige and classic cars — as collateral for loans. FT Partners provided financial advice to Borro.

ClusterHQ rakes in $12 mln

UK-based ClusterHQ, which is building a data layer for Docker, has secured $12 million in Series A funding, it was announced on the company’s site.
