VC-backed BlueData names marketing VP

Mountain View, California-based big data firm BlueData has hired Schroedl as vice president of marketing. Previously, Schroedl worked at Cisco Systems, where he served as director of product and solutions marketing for the cloud computing and data center software business. BlueData is backed by Ignition Partners, Atlantic Bridge Ventures, Intel Capital, Amplify Partners and Data Collective.

Dominguez, ex-Cisco Systems senior exec, joins Sprinklr

Carlos Dominguez has joined Sprinklr as the company’s president and chief operating officer. Dominguez will guide Sprinklr’s strategic direction and oversee business operations for the company. Dominguez spent 22 years at Cisco Systems where he most recently served as a technology evangelist and representative for the chairman and CEO. New York-based Sprinklr, a provider of social media management software, raised $40 million in Series D funding last year from investors ICONIQ Capital, Battery Ventures and Intel Capital.

Cisco Investments earmarks another $150 mln for early stage investing

Cisco Investments said it earmarked an additional $150 million for early-stage investing, adding to the $100 million it already set aside for investments in what it calls the Internet of everything. The organization, the venture capital arm of Cisco Systems, said the new money will target disruptive technologies such as big data and analytics; the Internet of things; connected mobility; storage; silicon; the content technology ecosystem; and India innovation.


Cisco invests $6M In Jordan’s Badia Impact Fund

Cisco Systems said it contributed a $6 million investment to the Badia Impact Fund to support early-stage companies in online, mobile, health care, e-commerce, consumer Internet and digital media sectors in Jordan. The Badia Impact Fund is also backed by the European Investment Bank, the King Abdullah Fund for Development and Silicon Badia’s parent company Accelerator Technology Holdings.

RingCentral Files For IPO

RingCentral, Inc. said it filed for an IPO. The company’s S-1 registration statement says the number of shares to be offered and their price range have yet to be released publicly. Its backers include Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, Cisco Systems, DAG Ventures and Hermes Growth Partners.

Cisco To Buy Composite Software For About $180M

Cisco Systems said it will acquire Composite Software, Inc., a San Mateo, Calif., developer of data virtualization software. Cisco will pay about $180 million in cash and retention-based incentives with the acquisition expected to close in the first quarter of fiscal 2014.

Cisco Completes Buy Of Intucell

Cisco Systems said it completed its acquisition of privately held Intucell. The network giant paid about $475 million in cash and retention-based incentives for the operations of the Ra’anana, Israel, -based company.

Cisco To Acquire Meraki For $1.2B

Cisco Systems said it would acquire privately held Meraki Inc., a San Francisco cloud networking startup with investors including Sequoia Capital, Google and DAG Ventures. Cisco will pay about $1.2 billion in cash and retention-based incentives. Meraki’s offerings will expand Cisco’s product portfolio in the midmarket.
