Madrona Venture Group leads Series A round for HelloTech

Los Angeles-based tech support startup HelloTech has raised $12.5 million in Series A funding. Madrona Venture Group led the round with participation from all return backers that included Upfront Ventures, CrossCut Ventures and Accel Partners. In conjunction with the funding, Len Jordan, managing director at Madrona Venture Group, has joined HellTech’s board.


VC-backed GumGum hires SVP of sales

Santa Monica, California-based digital marketing platform GumGum has named John Weisgerber as senior vice president of sales. Previously, Weisgerber worked at Hearst Corp where he served as executive director of digital advertising in its fashion and luxury collection. GumGum’s backers include Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital, New Enterprise Associates, Upfront Ventures, First Round Capital and Crosscut Ventures.


Local ID nets $1.9 mln seed

Los Angeles-based Local ID, a local intelligence platform that provides brands with solutions for their local marketing, has raised $1.9 million in seed funding. Crosscut Ventures led the round with participation from other investors that included Technicolor, TenOneTen, Baroda Ventures, Double M Partners, Tallwave, Wavemaker Partners and Queens Bridge Venture Partners.


Mobcrush nets $4.9 mln seed

Santa Monica, California-based Mobcrush, a mobile games’ live streaming platform, has secured $4.9 million in seed funding. The investors included Raine Ventures, First Round Capital, Lowercase Capital, CrunchFund, Rincon Venture Partners, Crosscut Ventures, Lionsgate, Advancit Capital, CAA Ventures, BAM Ventures and MTGx Ventures.

San Diego startup Measurabl bags $2 mln

In addition to the funding, Crosscut Managing Director Rick Smith will join Measurabl’s board of directors. Based in San Diego, Measurabl is a provider of sustainability reporting solutions.

On The Run Tech is Formed

Postcard on the Run has formed On The Run Tech, its parent company that specializes in building mobile apps that let users create customized physical products right from their mobile device. On The Run Tech recently closed a seed round of $1.3 million bringing the total amount of funding to date to $2 million. Selena Gomez, an investor and creative advisor to the company, participated in the new round along with Crosslink Capital, Crosscut Ventures, Siemer Ventures, Miramar Venture Partners, Newport Coast Investments and Double M Capital among other investors.


Connecticut Innovations, DFJ Frontier Lead Zadspace Deal

Connecticut Innovations and DFJ Frontier co-led a $3.2 million financing round for Zadspace Inc. The company’s software-as-a-service-based platform is designed to help retailers deliver highly targeted advertisements on packages shipped to consumers. New investors Cava Capital, LaunchCapital, and individual investor David Zucker joined the round along with existing shareholders Crosscut Ventures and The Gideon Hixon Fund.
