Online legal marketplace UpCounsel nabs $2.4 mln seed

San Francisco-based UpCounsel, an online marketplace for legal services, has raised $2.4 million in seed funding. Metamorphic Ventures and Crosslink Capital led the round with participation from other investors that included Homebrew. According to the company, the capital infusion will be used for expansion.


Storm Ventures leads $9 mln round for, a provider of written content on demand, has closed $9 million in Series B funding. Storm Ventures led the round with participation from previous backers Crosslink Capital and Redpoint Ventures. In conjunction with the financing, Tae Hea Nahm of Storm Ventures has been added to Scripted’s board of directors.


Fintech start-up Mirador attracts $2 mln seed

Mirador Financial, a Portland, Oregon-based financial tech start-up, has raised $2 million in seed funding. The investors included Collaborative Fund, Crosslink Capital, Vesta Corp. and Wicklow Capital.


Crosslink Capital leads $8 mln round for Chime app

Chime has secured $8 million in funding in a round led by Crosslink Capital. The other investors were Homebrew, Forerunner Ventures and PivotNorth Capital. Based in San Francisco, Chime is a bank account and rewards app for millennials.

BrightFunnel attracts $2.5 mln

BrightFunnel has received $2.5 million in funding. The investors were Resolute Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Crosslink Capital and Tekton Ventures. Based in San Francisco, BrightFunnel is a predictive analytics cloud for B2B marketers.


SchoolMint picks up $2.2 mln seed

SchoolMint said Friday that it has closed $2.2 million in seed financing. New School Ventures Fund, Runa Capital and Crosslink Capital led the round with participation from other backers that included Kapor Capital, Imagine K12, Romulus Capital, Fresco Capital and EdMentor VC. Based in San Francisco, SchoolMint is an online and mobile enrollment platform for K-12 schools.


Beauty Noted appoints new president/CEO, also grabs $2.2 mln

Beauty Noted has named Kate Thorp as president and CEO. Also, the firm has received $2.2 million in seed funding. Kortschak Investments led the round with participation from IDG Ventures and Crosslink Capital. Headquartered in Sausalito, Calif., Beauty Noted is a crowdsourcing platform focused on beauty products.


Cisco joins investment round for Ayla

Ayla Networks, which provides services for the Internet of Things, has raised $14.5 million in a Series B round from Cisco, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Linear Venture, SAIF Partners, SJF Ventures and existing investors Crosslink Capital and Voyager Capital. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Ayla, which provides a cloud-based platform for connecting devices and appliances, has now raised about $20 million in total funding. As part of the latest round, Peter Cook of IFC and Ben Ng of SAIF Partners have joined the board.

VC-backed RadiumOne board fires CEO in wake of guilty plea to battery charges

RadiumOne‘s board of directors has fired Gurbaksh Chahal as CEO and chairman. The firm’s COO Bill Lonergan has been named as Chahal’s replacement. Although no reason for Chahal’s termination was given in the company’s statement on this development, according to various news reports, RadiumOne faced pressure to make this decision in light of Chahal’s recent guilty plea to battery and domestic violence charges against his girlfriend. Based in San Francisco, RadiumOne is a provider of media buying solutions. It is backed by Crosslink Capital, DFJ Espirit, Adams Street Partners and Trinity Ventures.


TakeLessons snags $7 mln

TakeLessons said Tuesday that it has secured $7 million in funding. Lightbank led the round with participation from Crosslink Capital, SoftTech VC, Triangle Peak Partners and Moore Venture Partners. TakeLessons is an online marketplace for qualified and vetted teachers.


Hired secures $15 mln Series A funding

Hired has secured a $15 million Series A round. The financing was led by Crosslink Capital and Sierra Ventures with additional participation from SoftTech VC and Sherpa Ventures.


Meritech Capital leads $40 mln round for Coupa Software

Coupa Software said Thursday that it has secured $40 million in Series F funding. Meritech Capital led the round with participation from Icon Ventures, Northgate Ventures, Crosslink Capital, Mohr Davidow Ventures, Battery Ventures, El Dorado Ventures and Blue Run Ventures also participated. In addition to the funding, George Bischof, managing director of Meritech Capital Partners, has been added to Coupa’s board as an observer. Based in San Mateo, Calif., Coupa Software is a provider of cloud-based solutions for finance.

Crosslink to raise two venture funds

Crosslink Capital has set out to raise two new venture funds, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The filings, released Friday, show the firm plans to raise Crosslink Ventures VII and Crosslink Bayview VII. No fundraising targets were listed and no first sales were announced.

Big Data Company DataStax Raises $45M Series D

DataStax, which provides a big data platform built on Apache Cassandra, has raised $45 million in Series D funding. The round was led by Scale Venture Partners with participation from existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Crosslink Capital and Meritech Capital Partners and new investors DFJ Growth and Next World Capital. The company has now raised about $110 million in total funding since it was founded in early 2010. Raises $4.5M In Crosslink & Redpoint Led Deal said it raised $4.5 million in a Series A financing led by Crosslink Capital and Redpoint Ventures. Joining the round are James Currier and Stan Chudnovsky from Ooga Labs, Branchout CEO Rick Marini, Bebo co-founder Michael Birch, co-founder Chris Michel and LA angel Paige Craig. Chris Moore from Redpoint Ventures and Eric Chin from Crosslink Capital will be join the board.
