LX Ventures’ Copper.io hires new COO

Copper.io, a portfolio company of LX Ventures, has hired Bernd Petak as its chief operating officer. The appointment is effective immediately. Petak is a former strategy and operations consulting partner at Deloitte. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Copper.io is a provider of tools for developers of web and mobile apps.


Riverside invests in BeneSys

The Riverside Company said Tuesday that it has made an undisclosed investment in BeneSys. THL Credit and PNC provided financing for the transaction. Jones Day and Deloitte served as advisor to Riverside. Based in Troy, Michigan, BeneSys is a provider of third-party administration services for employee healthcare and pension benefit programs for Taft-Hartley multiemployer plans.

Deloitte Acquires IE Discovery

Deloitte, CVCA Survey: VCs in Canada See Further Contraction

Sixty-six percent of Canadian respondents expect their industry to contract over the next five years, according to the 2010 Global Venture Capital Survey by Deloitte, Canada’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Association and other industry associations. However, a majority of VCs in China, India and Brazil are more optimistic and anticipate growth in the number of venture firms in their countries over the same period.

Cleantech Venture Investments Hit $2.02 Billion

Clean technology venture investments in North America, Europe and China hit $2.02 billion in second quarter, up 43% for the same time period in 2009, according to the Cleantech Group and Deloitte. Solar was the lead sector for investments with $811 million spread across 26 deals.

Does Deloitte Not Understand FAS 157?

Kohlberg Capital Corp., a publicly-traded business development company, has filed an 8-K that includes a major dig at accounting firm Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Kohlberg reported that Deloitte gave an unqualified opinion on Kohlberg’s financial statements for the 2008 fiscal year, but that the accounting firm later conducted an internal inspection process “of the methodology and procedures used to prepare the valuations” under FAS 157. As a result, Deloitte requested supplemental information.

Deloitte Cans Its Fund Placement Team

Updated Deloitte LLP is in the process of shutting down its Fund Placement Advisory Group, peHUB has learned. The London-based effort employed 10 professionals, and focused on helping to secure fund capital for mid-market buyout firms in Europe.

No word yet on why the effort is folding, but some of its key members have already found new employment. Group head James Coleman has joined Probitas Partners, where he will lead the U.S.-based firm’s European efforts from London. Director Vincent le Hodey also will join Probitas, with a focus on European relationship management and secondary fund advisory. The pair will bring at least two of their Deloitte mandates with htem over to Probitas, although both are said to be near completion.

Liam Camburn Joins Deloitte

Deloitte has hired Liam Camburn as a new director in its private equity transaction services team. He joins from mid-market private equity firm Rutland Partners.
