DFJ Esprit rebrands Draper Esprit as Tim Draper vows more active role

DFJ Esprit has rebranded itself Draper Esprit as iconic U.S. venture capitalist Tim Draper agreed to work more closely with the firm to find, back and scale top European startups. In a press release, the firm said it will continue to operate as part of the Draper Venture Network for companies from Western Europe.


Doutissima secures seed financing led by DFJ Esprit

Doutissima, a South American health and well-being forum, has raised a seed capital round led by DFJ Esprit with participation from Breega Capital. The company also signed a strategic partnership with Telefonica-backed startup accelerator Wayra, also an investor in Doutissima.

DFJ, DFJ Esprit co-lead $14.5 mln Series B round in Bright Computing

DFJ and DFJ Esprit have co-led a $14.5 million Series B funding in Bright Computing, a provider of cluster management software. Prime Ventures and existing investor ING Corporate Investments also participated in the funding round. As part of the funding, DFJ partner Bill Bryant, Prime Ventures partner Alexander Ribbink, DFJ Esprit partner Richard Marsh, and ING CISO Rob Bening will join Bright Computing’s board of director.


XMOS adds strategic investors to $26 mln financing round

XMOS has completed a $26.2 million Series D round. Strategic investors joining the round included Robert Bosch Venture Capital of Germany, Huawei Technologies, a global information and communications technology solutions provider and Xilinx Technology Ventures, the investment arm of Silicon Valley-based Xilinx.

Campanja raises $5mln led by Hoxton Ventures and DFJ Esprit

Campanja has secured $5 million in Series A financing from Hoxton Ventures alongside DFJ Esprit. The new capital will be invested in platform development, key hiring in Palo Alto and Stockholm, and international expansion, including opening new offices in London and New York.

Lyst secures $14 mln Series B

Fashion ecommerce platform Lyst has raised $14 million in a Series B round led by venture capital firm Balderton Capital. DFJ Esprit and Accel Partners also invested.

VCs renew commitment to XMOS in $14m funding round

Investors Amadeus Capital Partners, DFJ Esprit and Foundation Capital have renewed their commitment to fabless semiconductor company, XMOS. XMOS is expected to use the funding to finance further expansion of its international operations.

Unbound closes funding round

Unbound, a crowdfunding platform for authors and publishers, has closed a funding round led by new investors including DFJ Esprit and Cambridge Angels. Seed investor Forward Investment Partners participated in the investment round.

DFJ Esprit strengthens ties with Silicon Valley

DFJ Esprit has strengthened its ties with a global network of investors which includes the Silicon Valley venture capital firm that backed Hotmail, Skype, Box, Twitter and Tesla Motors. Simon Cook, managing partner of London-based DFJ Esprit, will join the board of the DFJ Global Network, based in Silicon Valley which was founded by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, one of Silicon Valley’s leading investors.

DFJ Esprit Promotes Scott Sage to Partner

DFJ Esprit has promoted Scott Sage to partner. The promotion recognises his ongoing success as a venture capitalist at DFJ Esprit, and as a hands-on partner valued by portfolio company executives.

Kiadis Pharma Secures Financing

Kiadis Pharma, a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company developing treatments for blood cancers, has raised 10 million euros ($12.8 million) in an equity financing round. The round was led by Life Sciences Partners and supported by a large investment from DFJ-Esprit. Other investors included Alta Partners, Quest for Growth and NOM.

Datahug Raises $3.2M From DFJ Esprit

Datahug said it raised $3.2 million in a Series A financing from DFJ Esprit. The new money will enable the Dublin company to expand in the US and elsewhere, and build its customer base across industry sectors.

DFJ Esprit Backed Eve Sold To Synposys

DFJ Esprit said it has sold its French portfolio company EVE and its line of ZeBu hardware-assisted verification products to Synopsys. The exit is the firm’s fifteen since January 2010, which together have a combined value of more than $2.1 billion. DFJ Esprit added in a press release that since July 2011 it has invested in 10 new companies and 20 follow-on rounds.

DisplayLink Secures Growth Financing led by Clydesdale

DisplayLink®, a provider of solutions that simplify the connection between monitors and computing devices, has closed $10.4 million of growth financing. The financing was led by Clydesdale Bank’s Growth Finance team.
