Accel leads funding of mapping analysis provider CartoDB

New York-based CartoDB, a provider of data analysis for location-based information, has raised a $23 million Series B round of funding. New investor Accel Partners led the round, which includes new investor Salesforce Ventures and existing investors Earlybird Venture Capital and Kibo Ventures. The company has now raised $31 million in total funding. As part of the latest round, Harry Nelis, a partner at Accel, has joined the board.

Freudenberg Medical to buy majority stake in Hemoteq

Freudenberg Medical has acquired a majority stake in Hemoteq AG, a Germany-based provider of surface coating technologies and related services for medical devices. The sellers were Earlybird Venture Capital and Pinova Capital. No financial terms were disclosed.

VC-backed Traxpay names Siegert as COO

B2B payment provider Traxpay has hired Jochen Siegert as chief operating officer. Previously, Siegert worked at FinLeap where he served as a partner and CEO of two early-stage companies. Traxpay’s backers include Earlybird Venture Capital.


VC-backed RapidMiner taps Lee for president and CEO

Cambridge, Massachusetts-based RapidMiner, a predictive analytics platform provider, has named Peter Y. Lee as president and CEO. Lee was the former executive vice president of TIBCO. RapidMiner’s backers include Ascent Venture Partners, Longworth Venture Partners, Earlybird Venture Capital and Open Ocean Capital.


Boston big data company RapidMiner raises $15 mln

Boston-based big data company RapidMiner announced it has raised a $15 million Series B round led by Ascent Venture Partners and Longworth Venture Partners. Also participating in the round are returning investors Earlybird Venture Capital and Open Ocean Capital. The company, which provides a predictive analytics platform, has now raised $20 million in total funding.

Miracor Medical Systems snags additional Series B funds

Austrian medical device firm Miracor Medical Systems has received 4.5 million euros in its Series B financing. The investors were BioMedInvest, aws Founders Fund, Earlybird Venture Capital, Delta Partners and SHS. Mummert & Company advised Miracor on the transaction.


German start-up SimScale racks up funding

German start-up SimScale has received undisclosed funding from investors that included Earlybird Venture Capital, High-Tech Gründerfonds and Bayern Kapital. SimScale is a developer of an engineering simulation platform.


RhodeCode picks up $3.5 mln

RhodeCode has raised $3.5 million in funding. The investors were DFJ Esprit and Earlybird Venture Capital. Based in Berlin and San Francisco, RhodeCode is an enterprise-grade code collaboration platform provider.


Earlybird Venture Capital leads Series B round for B2X

B2X Care Solutions, a Munich-based provider of customer care solutions for smartphones, has closed $15 million in Series B funding. Earlybird Venture Capital led the round. Also, B2X has also acquired a majority stake in India-based The Service Solutions. No financial terms were disclosed.


Traxpay closes $15 mln series B

Traxpay, a B2B payment business, has closed $15 Million in series B funding. The oversubscribed round was led by the corporate incubator of Commerzbank and Software AG with existing investors Earlybird Venture Capital and former senior Apax partner, Michael Phillips of Castik Capital Partners, also participating in the round.


Hazelcast garners $11 mln Series B

Hazelcast has raised $11 million in Series B funding. Earlybird Venture Capital led the round. Headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif., Hazelcast is a provider of an open source in-memory data grid.


Earlybird backs Flipps, Tjobs and Metrekare.com

Earlybird Venture Capital has made undisclosed investments in three early-stage firms Flipps, Tjobs and Metrekare.com. Now based in San Francisco, Flipps is a direct-to-TV streaming platform. Romanian startup Tjobs helps employers in the European Union recruit temporary or permanent workers for jobs while Metrekare.com is a real estate listings platform in Turkey. The investments come only three months after Earlybird raised $110 million in the initial close of its Digital East Fund, which has a hard cap of $130 million.

Earlybird Venture Capital backs Flipps

Flipps has received $2.4 million in funding. The investors included Earlybird Venture Capital and Tim Draper. According to the firm, the capital will be used for growth and expansion. Based in San Francisco, New York and Sofia, Bulgaria, Flipps streams entertainment content from a mobile device to a TV.

Silicon Valley-based Guericke named partner of Earlybird

Berlin-based venture firm Earlybird Venture Capital announced today it has named Konstantin Guericke a partner. He becomes the fifth partner at the firm, which in mid-2013, raised $200 million for its fourth early-stage fund. Guericke has been in Silicon Valley for some 20 years and is co-founder and former VP of marketing of LinkedIn. He joined Earlybird nearly two years ago as a venture partner.

German Venture Firm Earlybird Raises $200M Fund

Earlybird Venture Capital closed its fourth early-stage fund with $200 million in commitments. The Berlin-based firm — which has invested in Auctionata, Carpooling.com, Versus.IO and EyeEm, among others — says the fund was oversubscribed.
