Nautic Partners buys S4T

Nautic Partners has acquired Source4Teachers, a provider of managed services focused exclusively on education. No financial terms were disclosed for the transaction that was done in partnership with S4T’s management. Houlihan Lokey was financial advisor to S4T on the transaction while Prudential Capital Group provided financing.


Socratic nets $6 mln Series A

New York City-based education company Socratic has secured $6 million in Series A funding. Shasta Ventures led the round with participation from Spark Capital and Omidyar Network. According to the company, the capital infusion will be used for growth.


NoRedInk pulls in $6 mln in True Ventures-led round

San Francisco-based education company NoRedInk has secured $6 million in Series A funding. True Ventures led the round with participation from The Social+Capital Partnership, Kapor Capital and ReThink Education. In addition to the financing, Jon Callaghan of True Ventures has been added to NoRedInk’s board of directors.


Benchmark, TAL and ZhenFund back Minerva Project

San Francisco-based education firm Minerva Project is raising $70 million in a Series B round. The investors include Benchmark Capital, TAL Education Group and ZhenFund. In addition to the funding, TAL will take a seat on the Minerva Project’s board.

PE-backed Six Red Marbles hires new CFO

Six Red Marbles, which is backed by Calvert Street Capital Partners, has named David DiFelice as chief financial officer. Previously, DiFelice worked at Strategic Savings. Headquartered in Boston, Six Red Marbles is a provider of digital and print-based learning programs and educational solutions.


VC-backed 2U rolls out IPO

2U has launched its IPO of 9.175 million shares after pricing it at $13 per share. The stock began trading Friday on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol “TWOU.” Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse Securities are the lead underwriters. 2U builds online learning platforms. Its backers include Highland Capital Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, CIty Light Capital and Novak Biddle Venture Partners.


IVP leads Series C round for General Assembly

According to a blog post on its site, General Assembly has closed $35 million in Series C funding. Institutional Venture Partners led the round with participation from investors that included GSV Capital, Rethink Education and Western Technology Investment. In addition to the funding, Todd Chaffee, general partner at IVP, will join General Assembly’s board. Based in New York City, General Assembly is a provider of educational programming and support.
