Censio nets $10 mln Series A

Boston-based Censio, which uses big data to make driving safer and more affordable, has raised $10 million in Series A funding. General Catalyst Partners led the round with participation from Bain Capital Ventures and Lakestar.

Ex-Evernote CEO Libin joins General Catalyst

Phil Libin, co-founder and former CEO of the note-taking service Evernote, has joined General Catalyst Partners as a general partner in its Palo Alto, Calif.-based office. Libin had stepped down from Evernote in July. General Catalyst is not an investor in the Redwood City, Calif.-based company.


Personal concierge service GoButler nets $8 mln Series A

Personal concierge service GoButler has raised $8 million in Series A funding. General Catalyst Partners led the round with participation from other investors that included Lakestar, Global Founders Capital, Slow Ventures, BoxGroup, Sound Ventures and Cherry Ventures.


Visa backs VC-backed payments startup Stripe

Visa Inc has made an undisclosed investment in Stripe, a mobile and online payment provider. According to Crunchbase, Stripe’s backers include Sequoia Capital, Thrive Capital, Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst Partners.

VC-backed ThreatStream appoints Bush as CFO

Redwood City, California-based ThreatStream, a cyber security threat intelligence platform provider, has named Nancy Bush as chief financial officer. Previously, Bush worked at Adaptive Insights where she served as vice president of finance. ThreatStream’s backers include General Catalyst Partners, Institutional Venture Partners, Google Ventures and Paladin Capital Group.


Snapchat raises another $537.6 mln

Snapchat has raised another $537.6 million since February, according to an SEC filing. The video messaging app has its sight set on raising another $112.4 million.


Fintech startup Digit raises $11.3 mln, General Catalyst leads

Digit, a San Francisco-based provider of an automated savings tool for consumers, announced it has raised a $11.3 million Series A round. General Catalyst Partners led the round, which included existing investors Baseline Ventures and Google Ventures. Hans Morris, former president of Visa, and other individual investors also participated in the funding. The company has now raised $13.8 million in total funding.


Food brand NatureBox picks up $30 mln series C

Food brand NatureBox Inc has raised $30 million in Series C funding. Global Founders Capital led the round with participation from other investors that included Neuberger Berman Private Equity Funds, Kensington Capital Holdings, Valley Oak Investment Partners, General Catalyst Partners, Canaan Partners and Softbank Capital.


Google Ventures leads $15 mln round in dig data company Rocana

Rocana Inc, a provider of IT operations analytics software, announced it has raised a $15 million Series B round of funding led by Google Ventures. General Catalyst Partners, which led the previous round, also participated, along with Toba Capital and Paul Sagan. The company, which was previously called Scaling Data, has now raised $19.4 million in total funding. As part of the Series B round of funding, Donald Fischer, venture partner at General Catalyst, will join the Rocana board of directors.


Menlo Ventures leads Series A round for RealtyShares

Real estate investing marketplace RealtyShares has secured $10 million in Series A funding. Menlo Ventures led the round with participation from General Catalyst Partners. In addition to the funding, John Jarve, managing director at Menlo Ventures, has been appointed to RealtyShares’ board.


General Catalyst leads Series B round for Fundbox

San Francisco-based Fundbox, a cash flow optimization tool for small businesses, has received $40 million in Series B funding. General Catalyst Partners led the round with participation from other investors that included Khosla Ventures, Shlomo Kramer, Blumberg Capital and NyCa Investment Partners. Also, Hemant Taneja of General Catalyst has been added to Fundbox’s board of directors. In addition to the Series B financing, Fundbox has also received a new credit facility from Silicon Valley Bank and other unidentified institutions. No financial terms were disclosed.


VC-backed OGSystems acquires Urban Robotics

OGSystems, which is backed by General Catalyst Partners, has acquired Portland, Oregon-based Urban Robotics, a provider of advanced airborne military intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance applications. No financial terms were disclosed.
