General Catalyst promotes Bonatsos to venture partner

General Catalyst has promoted Niko Bonatsos from principal to venture partner. On his bio page, Bonatsos said he has been involved with such portfolio companies as Chatous/Kiwi, ClassDojo, FlightCar, Livongo Health, Listia, PumpUp, Pushbullet, RealtyShares and Snapchat.

Open source company Minio fetches $3.3 mln seed

Newly launched open source company Minio has raised $3.3 million in seed funding. General Catalyst and Nexus Ventures led the round with participation from other investors that included AME Cloud Ventures and Index Ventures.


Menlo Security attracts $25 mln Series B

Menlo Park, California-based Menlo Security, a cyber security company that has launched from stealth mode, has raised $25 million in Series B funding. Sutter Hill Ventures led the round with participation from return backers General Catalyst, Osage University Partners and Engineering Capital.


General Catalyst leads $7.8 mln round for Campus Job

Campus Job said Thursday it closed a $7.8 million A round led by General Catalyst. New participants include Index Ventures, SV Angel, Slow Ventures and others. Existing investors including Box Group and Lerer Hippeau Ventures also took part. New York-based Campus Job is an online marketplace for college students to find part-time jobs and internships.


VC-backed ClassPass buys Fitmob

ClassPass has acquired San Francisco-based Fitmob, a developer of an app that connects users with workouts in their area. No financial terms were disclosed. ClassPass is backed by investors that include General Catalyst and Thrive Capital while Fitmob’s backers included Mayfield Fund and Silicon Valley Bank.


Network security startup Illumio snags $100 mln Series C

Sunnyvale, California-based Illumio, a network security startup, has secured $100 million in Series C funding. The investors were BlackRock Funds, Accel Partners, Formation 8, Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Microsoft Chairman John W. Thompson, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang.


Livongo Health rakes in $20 mln Series B

Consumer digital health company Livongo Health has raised $20 million in Series B funding. The investors included Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, DFJ and return backer General Catalyst. In conjunction with the funding, Dr. Beth Seidenberg, a general partner at KPCB and Emily Melton, a partner at DFJ, have been added to Livongo Health’s board of directors.


ZenPayroll nabs $60 mln

San Francisco-based ZenPayroll, an online payroll software provider for small businesses, has raised $60 million in funding. The investors included Emergence Capital Partners, Ribbit Capital, General Catalyst, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Google Ventures.


Highfive garners $32 mln Series B

Redwood City, California-based Highfive, a provider of video conferencing device and cloud software for businesses, has received $32 million in Series B funding. Lightspeed Venture Partners led the round with participation from other investors that included Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Google Ventures, SV Angel, Aaron Levie of Box and Marc Benioff of


NJ finds no pay-to-play violation in General Catalyst commitment

New Jersey state Treasury investigators found no wrongdoing in venture firm General Catalyst’s decision to not report a political contribution from one of its executives-in-residence – now Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker – months before the state pension committed millions to the firm.


Pushbullet grabs $1.5 mln seed

San Francisco-based Pushbullet, a provider of cross-platform functionality solutions, has closed $1.5 million in seed funding. The investors included General Catalyst, SV Angel, Alexis Ohanian, Garry Tan and Paul Buchheit.


Social messaging app Chatous snaps up $2.1 mln

Social messaging app Chatous has received $2.1 million in funding. The investors were General Catalyst, XSeed Capital and Slow Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Kevin Colleran, a venture partner at General Catalyst, has been added to the Chatous board of directors.


Indico snags $3 mln

Machine learning startup Indico has raised $3 million in funding. The investors included General Catalyst, .406 Ventures, Two Sigma and Boston Seed.
