Insight Venture Partners beefs up staff with five new additions

Insight Venture Partners has added five new venture partners to its team. They are Jason Ewell, Josh Gray, Karl Karlsson, Emmet B. Keeffe III and Thilo Semmelbauer. All will join Nick Sinai as part of Insight’s Onsite team. Ewell is a former vice president of Travelclick; Gray is a former vice president at Oracle; Karlsson is a co-founder of China Internet Ventures; Keeffe is a co-founder and CEO of iRise; and Semmelbauer is the former president and COO of Shutterstock.


BlaBlaCar drives away with $200 mln Series D

Long-distance ride-sharing community BlaBlaCar has secured $200 million in Series D funding. Insight Venture Partners and Lead Edge Capital led the round with participation from Vostok New Ventures. In addition to the funding, Jeff Horing, a managing director at Insight Venture Partners, has been added to BlaBlaCar’s board.


Insight Venture leads $50 mln investment in AMCS

Insight Venture Partners led a $50 million investment in AMCS, a software company for the waste and recycling industry. The other investor in the funding round was Strategic Investment Fund. Euan Menzies, managing director at Insight, will join AMCS’s board.


Mirantis grabs $100 mln in Intel Capital-led round

Intel Capital has led an $100 million funding round for Mountain View, California-based software solutions provider Mirantis. Other investors were Goldman Sachs, August Capital, Insight Venture Partners, Ericsson, Sapphire Ventures and WestSummit Capital.


Insight leads $20 mln round for SpotHero

SpotHero said Wednesday it closed a $20 million Series B round led by Insight Venture Partners. SpotHero’s existing investors — Battery Ventures, Bullpen Capital, Chicago Ventures, Draper Associates, OCA Ventures, Pritzker Group Venture Capital and 500 Startups — also participated in the round along with Monkfish Equity, an investment group started by the founders of trivago. Chicago-based SpotHero is an on-demand parking service.


Virtual storage company Tintri raises $125 mln round led by Silver Lake Kraftwerk

Mountain View, Calif.-based Tintri Inc, a provider of storage for virtualization and cloud environments, announced the close of a $125 million Series F round of funding. Silver Lake Kraftwerk led the round, which included existing investors Insight Venture Partners, Lightspeed Ventures, Menlo Ventures and New Enterprise Associates. The company has now raised $260 million in total funding.

VC-backed Udemy hires two VPs

San Francisco-based online education marketplace Udemy has appointed Robert Wong as vice president of product and Grégory Boutté as vice president of content. Previously, Wong worked at Sidecar where he served as vice president of product while Boutté most recently worked as vice president of eBay Motors & Electronics for eBay North America. Udemy’s backers include Stripes Group, Norwest Venture Partners, Insight Venture Partners, Lightbank, MHS Capital and Learn Capital.


BrightBytes racks up $33 mln Series C

San Francisco-based BrightBytes, a educational research and analysis provider, has raised $33 million in Series C funding. Insight Venture Partners led the round with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Rethink Education and Learn Capital. In conjunction with the funding, Nick Sinai of Insight Venture Partners has been added to BrightBytes’ board of directors.


Voccola named CEO of Kaseya

Kaseya said Wednesday that it has named Fred Voccola as CEO and that Yogesh Gupta has been elected the new Chairman of the Board. Voccola was most recently a Present and General Manager of Yodle’s Brand Networks Division. Insight Venture Partners invested in Kaseya, a provider of IT management software, in 2013.


Insight Venture Partners to buy Fourth

ECI Partners has agreed to sell a majority stake of Fourth to Insight Venture Partners. Financial terms weren’t announced. London-based Fourth provides cloud-based (SaaS) cost control solutions to the hospitality industry. Jefferies advised Fourth/ECI Partners.
