Oakland, California-based Turnitin, a service that aims to detect student plagiarism, has named Jill Hedrick as senior vice president of North American sales. Previously, Hedrick worked at Northwest Evaluation Association where she served as vice president of partner accounts. Turnitin is backed by Insight Venture Partners, GIC, Norwest Venture Partners, Lead Edge Capital and Georgian Partners.

Gainsight inks $50 mln Series D

Customer success company Gainsight has raised $50 million in Series D funding. Insight Venture Partners led the round. The company’s other investors include Battery Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Salesforce Ventures, Summit Partners and Lightspeed Venture Partners. In addition to the funding, Gainsight has hired Andy Knosp as vice president of professional services. Previously, Knosp was vice president of professional services at Hortonworks.

Tenable Network Security Inc. said Tuesday it raised a $250 million Series B funding round led by Insight Venture Partners and Accel. Columbia, Maryland-based Tenable provides cyber security software. Tenable, which raised $50 million in September 2012, said capital raised to-date totals $300 million.

Insight Venture Partners has added five new venture partners to its team. They are Jason Ewell, Josh Gray, Karl Karlsson, Emmet B. Keeffe III and Thilo Semmelbauer. All will join Nick Sinai as part of Insight’s Onsite team. Ewell is a former vice president of Travelclick; Gray is a former vice president at Oracle; Karlsson is a co-founder of China Internet Ventures; Keeffe is a co-founder and CEO of iRise; and Semmelbauer is the former president and COO of Shutterstock.

SpotHero’s existing investors — Battery Ventures, Bullpen Capital, Chicago Ventures, Draper Associates, OCA Ventures, Pritzker Group Venture Capital and 500 Startups — also participated in the round along with Monkfish Equity, an investment group started by the founders of trivago. Mountain View, Calif.-based Tintri Inc, a provider of storage for virtualization and cloud environments, announced the close of a $125 million Series F round of funding. Silver Lake Kraftwerk led the round, which included existing investors Insight Venture Partners, Lightspeed Ventures, Menlo Ventures and New Enterprise Associates. The company has now raised $260 million in total funding.
