BIMA racks up $38.4 mln

BIMA, a provider of mobile-delivered insurance in emerging markets, has secured $38.4 million in funding. The company’s backers include Investment AB Kinnevik, LeapFrog Investments and Millicom, an international telecom and media firm.


Leapfrog divests stake in AIL to Swiss Re

LeapFrog Investments has exited its minority stake in Apollo Investments Limited to Swiss Re. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in Kenya, Apollo Investments Limited is an insurance group.

Bima raises $22mln from existing investors

Bima, a provider of mobile-delivered insurance in emerging markets has raised $22 million. The capital was raised through follow-on funding from Bima’s three existing shareholders: emerging markets focused investors Kinnevik and LeapFrog Investments, and Millicom, an international telecommunications and media company.

LeapFrog Investments exits Ghanaian insurer to Prudential

LeapFrog Investments has exited from Ghanaian insurer Express Life, selling its majority stake to Prudential for an undisclosed sum. Express Life was founded by Mr. Obed Danquah and provides savings and insurance products, including life and hospitalization cover, for emerging consumers in both urban and rural areas.
