VC-backed Udemy hires two VPs

San Francisco-based online education marketplace Udemy has appointed Robert Wong as vice president of product and Grégory Boutté as vice president of content. Previously, Wong worked at Sidecar where he served as vice president of product while Boutté most recently worked as vice president of eBay Motors & Electronics for eBay North America. Udemy’s backers include Stripes Group, Norwest Venture Partners, Insight Venture Partners, Lightbank, MHS Capital and Learn Capital.


Dating app Coffee Meets Bagel inks $7.8 mln

Dating app Coffee Meets Bagel has raised $7.8 million in Series A funding. DCM Ventures led the round with participation from other investors that included Quest Ventures, Azure Capital, Lightbank, WI Harper Group and Venture Lounge. In conjunction with the financing, Osuke Honda, a general partner at DCM Ventures, has been named to Coffee Meets Bagel’s board of directors.


Parking app SpotHero nabs $4.5 mln Series A

SpotHero has closed $4.5 million in Series A funding. The investors included Chicago Ventures, Bullpen Capital, Battery Ventures, OCA Ventures, Pritzker Group Venture Capital, Lightbank, G2T3V,, Draper Associates and 500 Startups. In conjunction with the funding, Mike Gamson of LinkedIn has been added to SpotHero’s board of directors. Headquartered in Chicago, SpotHero is an on-demand parking app.

News sharing startup Quibb picks up $650K, seeks to raise another $100K

According to a post on its site, Quibb has secured $650,000 in seed funding. The investors include Bloomberg Beta, betaworks, Lightbank and unnamed nagel investors. Also, Quibb is seeking to raise an additional $100,000 through fundraising platform Alphaworks. Based in San Francisco, Quibb is a network for industry professionals to share and discuss news items. TakeLessons snags $7 mln

TakeLessons said Tuesday that it has secured $7 million in funding. Lightbank led the round with participation from Crosslink Capital, SoftTech VC, Triangle Peak Partners and Moore Venture Partners. TakeLessons is an online marketplace for qualified and vetted teachers.

Udemy Secures $12m Series B Led by Insight Venture Partners

Online education marketplace Udemy has completed a $12 million Series B financing round led by Insight Venture Partners, with additional support from existing investors Lightbank, MHS Capital and Learn Capital. This brings bringing Udemy’s total funding to $16 million. The company has also announced the hiring of Dennis Yang as president and chief operating officer.

Locu Raises $4 Mln Round led by General Catalyst Partners

General Catalyst Partners has led a $4 million series A round for Locu. Lightbank Backs BodyShopBids

Lightbank, the venture fund started by Groupon co-founders Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell, has put an undisclosed amount into BodyShopBids, a free online service that enables consumers to get auto repair estimates from local body shops. No terms were released. BodyShopBids was formed in early 2011, and is based in Chicago.

MyRete Inks Investment from Lightbank

San Mateo, Calif.-based myRete has raised an undisclosed amount of venture capital from Lightbank, the technology investment fund created by Groupon co-founders Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell. myRete makes a location-based social networking app called WhosHere. The company, which was formed in 2008 and says its already profitable, will use the funds to grow its business.
