Auris Surgical Robotics snags $150 mln

Auris Surgical Robotics, a developer of robotics technology, has raised $150 million in funding, according to an SEC filing. Last year, Auris secured $34.4 million in Series A funding from Highland Capital Partners, Lux Capital, Mithril Capital Management and NaviMed Capital, reported Crunchbase.


New Leaf Venture leads $25 mln funding in Kyruus

New Leaf Venture Partners led a $25 million funding round in Kyruus, an enterprise software company for hospitals. Other investors in the funding included Providence Health & Services, Leerink Capital Partners and McKesson Ventures. Existing investors Venrock, Highland Capital Partners, Lux Capital and Fidelity Biosciences also participated in the funding. Sam Brasch, venture partner at New Leaf, has joined Kyruus’ board.


Kyruus nabs $25 mln

Boston-based Kyruus, an enterprise software solutions provider that helps hospitals optimize patient access and referral management, has secured $25 million in funding. New Leaf Venture Partners led the round with participation from Providence Health & Services, Leerink Capital Partners, McKesson Ventures, Venrock, Highland Capital Partners, Lux Capital and Fidelity Biosciences.


Virtual reality startup AltspaceVR raises $10 mln

AltspaceVR, a Redwood City, Calif.-based provider of a social platform for virtual reality, announced it has raised $10.3 million in funding from returning investors Tencent, Dolby Family Ventures, Raine Ventures, Lux Capital, Western Technology Investments, Maven Ventures, Promus Ventures, Streamlined Ventures and Rothenberg Ventures, along with new investor Comcast Ventures. The company last raised a $5.2 million seed round and said it has now raised $15.7 million in total funding.


3D printing service Shapeways snaps up $30 mln

New York City-based Shapeways, a 3D printing service and marketplace, has raised $30 million in funding. INKEF Capital led the round with participation from Hewlett Packard Ventures, Presidio Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures, Index Ventures and Lux Capital. In conjunction with the funding, Robert Jan Galema of INKEF Capital has been named to the Shapeways board.

VC-backed Kala taps Iwicki as executive chairman

Waltham, Massachusetts-based Kala Pharmaceuticals, a developer of treatments for ocular diseases, has named Mark Iwicki as executive chairman and a member of its board of directors. Previously, Iwicki was the president and CEO of Civitas Therapeutics Inc. Kala’s backers include Crown Venture Fund, Lux Capital, Polaris Partners, Third Rock Ventures and Ysios Capital.


Clarifai nets $10 mln Series A

New York City-based Clarifai, a provider of image recognition technology, has raised an overall total of $10 million in Series A funding, the company announced in a blog post on its site. Union Square Ventures, Lux Capital and Osage University Partners led the round with participation from Google Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Nvidia Ventures, Corazon Capital, LDV Capital and New York University.



Lux Capital raises oversubscribed $350 mln fourth fund

Lux Capital said it has closed an oversubscribed $350 million fourth fund for early stage investing. The fund had an initial target of $245 million and brings the total capital under management at the firm to $700 million, according to a press release.


Sequoia leads $8.7 mln round for Orbital Insight

Orbital Insight said it raised $8.7 million of Series A financing in a round led by Sequoia Capital and joined by new investor Google Ventures and existing investors Bloomberg Beta, citizen.vc and Lux Capital. Sequoia Partner Bill Coughran has joined the board. 


SOLS rakes in $11.1 mln Series B

SOLS, a provider of 3D printing and custom mass-manufacturing technology, has closed $11.1 million in Series B funding. The investors included Founders Fund, Lux Capital, Tenaya Capital and Melo7 Tech Partners. In addition to the funding, SOLS has named Terdema Ussery, president and CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, to its board of directors.


Lux to raise $350 mln fourth fund

Lux Capital has set out to raise a $350 million fourth fund, according to an SEC filing. No first close is yet reported. The firm’s previous $245 million fund was raised in 2013, according to Thomson Reuters.


3Scan scores $6.67 mln Series A

Lux Capital has led a $6.67 million Series A funding round for San Francisco-based 3Scan, a producer of knife edge scanning microscope technology. In conjunction with the funding, Josh Wolfe and Dr. Adam Goulburn of Lux Capital have been added to 3Scan’s board of directors. Also, 3Scan has hired Caroline Miller as director of histology and Mike Pesavento as image analysis wizard, respectively.


Everspin Technologies snags $29 mln Series B

Chandler, Arizona-based MRAM maker Everspin Technologies Inc has secured $29 million in Series B funding.The investors include Globalfoundries, Western Digital Capital, New Venture Partners, Lux Capital, Sigma Partners, Epic Ventures and Draper Fisher Jurvetson.


Bill Gates, Madrona leads $15 mln round for Echodyne

Bill Gates and Madrona Venture Group have led an initial $15 million round of funding for Echodyne Corp. Vulcan Capital, Lux Capital, The Kresge Foundation and others also invested. Bellevue, Wash.-based Echodyne, the fourth spin-out from Intellectual Ventures, aims to bring to market metamaterials-based radar products.


Lux Capital hires Zavain Dar as a senior associate

Lux Capital has hired Zavain Dar as a senior associate in its Palo Alto office. Dar will focus on identifying and leading seed and early-stage technology investments and working with emerging entrepreneurs. Zavain was previously an investor at Eric Schmidt’s Innovation Endeavors.


AltspaceVR raises seed funds

AltspaceVR, a social platform for virtual reality, has raised $5.2 million in seed funding. Investors include Dolby Family Ventures, Formation 8, Google Ventures, Lux Capital, Foundation Capital, Rothenberg Ventures, SV Angel, Haystack Fund, Tencent, Raine Ventures, Promus Ventures, Western Technology Investment and others.


DCM leads Series B round for Matterport

Matterport said Monday that it has closed $16 million in Series B financing. DCM Ventures led the round with participation from AME Cloud Ventures. Other investors include Lux Capital, Felicis Ventures, Greylock Partners, Navitas Capital, AMD Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures and Rothenberg Ventures. Based in Mountain View, Calif., Matterport develops cloud-based 3D models of interior spaces.
