Online appointment booking platform Whittl grabs $3.3 mln

Chicago-based online appointment booking platform Whittl has raised $3.3 million in Series A funding. Origin Ventures and KGC Capital led the round with participation from other investors that included OCA Ventures, Amicus Capital, Drummond Road Capital and GrubHub co-founder Mike Evans.


Campus Steps nets $3 mln

Santa Monica, California-based Campus Steps, a college selection and career guidance platform for students, has raised an overall $3 million in Series A funding. The investors were Campus Explorer, OCA Ventures, Rincon Venture Partners and Vicente Capital.


Options away raises $3.5 mln

Options Away said Tuesday that it raised a $3.5 million Series A round led by OCA Ventures and joined by Thayer Ventures and Chicago’s Pritzker Group Venture Capital. Chicago-based Options Away allows consumers to lock-in flight prices.


Automated Insights rakes in $5.5 mln Series B

Automated Insights has raised $5.5 million in Series B funding. Osage Venture Partners led the round with participation from investors that included Samsung Venture Investment Corp., the Associated Press, AOL co-founder Steve Case, Court Square Ventures, OCA Ventures and IDEA Fund Partners. In addition to the funding, David Drahms of Osage Venture Partners and Scott Frederick, chief operating officer of Automated Insights, have joined the company’s board of directors. Based in Durham, North Carolina, Automated Insights produces personalized narrative content from big data.


Parking app SpotHero nabs $4.5 mln Series A

SpotHero has closed $4.5 million in Series A funding. The investors included Chicago Ventures, Bullpen Capital, Battery Ventures, OCA Ventures, Pritzker Group Venture Capital, Lightbank, G2T3V, e.ventures, Draper Associates and 500 Startups. In conjunction with the funding, Mike Gamson of LinkedIn has been added to SpotHero’s board of directors. Headquartered in Chicago, SpotHero is an on-demand parking app.

Mobile App Startup Red Foundry Nets $1.1 Million

Red Foundry has raised $1.1 million in a first round of financing from OCA Ventures and I2A Fund, Reuters reported. The startup develops technology that allows anyone to design and create mobile applications without needing to know programming code. The company is based in Chicago, and will use the money to expand its staff and to launch its technology, which is currently in beta testing.

Cleversafe Seals $31.4 Million in Series C Financing

Chicago-based cloud storage company Cleversafe has raised $31.4 million in an extended Series C funding round. Venture investors include Chicago-based OCA Ventures; Sunnyside, Calif.-based Motorola Ventures; and Menlo Park, Calif.-based New Enterprise Associates. The company will use the money in part to expand marketing of its dispersed storage platform.

CampusExplorer Raises Second Round

CampusExplorer.com, a Santa Monica, Calif.-based college search portal, has raised $2.25 million in Series B funding. OCA Ventures led the round, and was joined by Origin Ventures and return backer Rincon Venture Partners.
