CardioKinetix racks up $50 mln

CardioKinetix, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based medical device firm, has received $50 million in funding. Edwards Lifesciences Corp. led the round with participation from return backers U.S. Venture Partners, Tekla Healthcare Investors, Tekla Life Sciences Investors, SV Life Sciences, Panorama Capital, New Leaf Venture Partners and Lexington Private Equity. CardioKinetix has also inked an agreement with Edwards Lifesciences Corp. that gives the latter company the option to acquire CardioKinetix “based on future regulatory milestones.”


Phizer Buys VC-Backed NextWave Pharmaceuticals

Phizer is snapping up NextWave Pharmaceuticals—a company backed by a laundry list of investors including Panorama Capital, Bay City Capital, Kearny Venture Partners, Aisling Capital, Fidelity Biosciences, Sofinnova Ventures and Vivo Ventures. Under the terms of the deal, Pfizer will pay $255 million to NextWave’s shareholders at closing. NextWave’s shareholders are eligible to receive up to $425 million in additional money, based on sales milestones. NextWave closed a $45 million round last January.


Validity Sensors Secures $20m Series E led by TeleSoft Partners

JiWire Closes on $20M Series C

Location-based mobile media company JiWire has closed on $20 million in Series C financing. Palo Alto, Calif.-based Trident Capital led the round, which included participation from existing shareholders Comcast Interactive Capital, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Norwest Venture Partners and Panorama Capital. The company has raised a total of $45 million to date. Trident Capital’s John Moragne will join the JiWire board as a result of the round. JiWire is based in San Francisco.
