Big Switch Networks racks up $48.5 mln

Santa Clara, California-based Big Switch Networks, a provider of hyperscale-inspired networking technologies to data centers, has raised $48.5 million in total funding. The investors included Morgenthaler Ventures, Silver Lake Waterman, Index Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Accton, CID Group and MSD Capital. In addition to the funding, Dan Warmenhoven, former CEO at NetApp and Gary Morgenthaler to Big Switch’s board of directors.

Lifesize spins off from Logitech, grabs $17.5 mln

Lifesize, a video communications solutions provider, has spun off from Logitech International and raised $17.5 million in funding . The new private company’s investors are Redpoint Ventures, Sutter Hill Ventures and Meritech Capital Partners. Logitech will retain a stake in Lifesize.

San Francisco-based Datameer, a provider of a big data analytics platform, announced it has raised a $40 million round of financing led by ST Telemedia. Joining the round are Top Tier Capital Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers, Redpoint Ventures, Next World Capital and Software AG. The company has now raised $76 million in total funding. As part of the latest financing, Nikhil Eapen of ST Telemedia has joined the board.

Menlo leads $10 mln funding of cloud company Platform9

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Platform9, a provider of a SaaS solution to make it possible for companies to turn their existing IT infrastructure into a private cloud, has raised $10 million in Series B funding. Menlo Ventures led the round and previous investor Redpoint Ventures also participated. The company, which was founded by a group of former VMware engineers, has now raised $14.5 million in total funding. As part of the round, Mark Siegel, general partner at Menlo, has joined the board, which also includes Scott Raney.

Redpoint closes Fund VI at $400 mln–Updated

Redpoint Ventures announced on its blog that it has closed its sixth fund with $400 million in commitments. Fund VI is the same size as its previous vehicle, which closed in 2013. Partner Satish Dharmaraj writes in the blog post that the fund will focus on seed, Series A and Seris B rounds in consumer and enterprise companies.

Secret CEO Byttow confirms shutdown

Secret Inc. CEO David Byttow said in a post that the app would be shutting down. Secret, of San Francisco, has reportedly raised $35 million in funding, including $25 million in July. “Unfortunately, Secret does not represent the vision I had when starting the company, so I believe it’s the right decision for myself, our investors and our team,” Byttow wrote on Medium. Secret let users exchange messages anonymously; investors included Google Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & ByersIndex Ventures, Redpoint Ventures and Fuel Capital. Byttow said the company “still has a significant amount of invested capital” and that he believes the “right thing to do is return the money.”
