Blackbaud buys VC-backed Smart Tuition

Blackbaud Inc has acquired Smart Tuition, a provider of payment solutions for private schools and parents, for $190 million. Sagent Advisors LLC served as financial advisor to Blackbaud on the transaction while Raymond James did likewise for Smart Tuition. Smart Tuition’s backers included Atlas Venture, Flybridge Capital Partners and North Hill Ventures.

Sagent Advisors names co-CEOs

Investment bank Sagent Advisors has appointed Joseph Donohue and Bill Kohr as co-CEOs. Both will be succeeding Hal Ritch, the company’s co-founder, who will continue as a managing director and board chairman. All changes are effective as of today.

H.I.G. buys Pegasus’ Distribution Services unit

Pegasus Solutions has sold its Distribution Services business to H.I.G. Capital. Terms of the deal, which closed Nov. 10, weren’t announced. The transaction was part of Pegasus’ sale of its Reservation Services business to Regent Equity Partners, which was completed in October. All of Pegasus has been sold, the statement said. Pegasus’ Distribution business provides information and data connectivity to nearly 100,000 hotels. Matthew Epstein of Sagent Advisors provided financial advice to Pegasus.

Novacap inks buy of Dialogic

Novacap has agreed to buy Dialogic for total cash consideration of $35.3 million. Sellers include Tennenbaum Capital Partners. Once the deal closes, Novacap will own more than 90 percent. Parsippany, N.J.-based Dialogic provides communications technology for networks. Sagent Advisors provided financial advice to Dialogic.

Sagent Advisors said Thursday that Will Carnell, Sarah Forcino and Katie Kieran were each promoted to the position of VP. Carnell joined Sagent in 2009 and focuses in the packaging, capital goods and multi-industry sectors. Forcino has been with Sagent since 2007 and focuses on the execution of mergers and acquisitions and alternative capital markets transactions across multiple industries. Kieran joined Sagent in 2009 and is a member of the firm’s financial sponsors team.

Every day, it seems there’s a tech company being sold or rumored to be on the block. With so many deals, I thought I should reach out to someone with deep background in the sector.

Ron Pillar joined i-bank Sagent Advisors on Wednesday as an MD in the tech group. Before Sagent, Pillar was at Ladenburg Thalmann where he was vice chairman and co-head of investment banking.

Prior to that, he spent nine years at J.P. Morgan where he was head of technology investment banking. It was at J.P. Morgan that Pillar headed up the advisory team in the 2006 merger of Lucent Technologies and Alcatel of France. He also directed the $700 million IPO of Neustar as well as the $8 billion spin-off of Teradata from NCR Corp.
