RAY snaps up funding from BRV Lotus

RAY Company has received undisclosed funding from BRV Lotus, the Asia fund of BlueRun Ventures. A former subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, RAY is a producer of imaging systems for the medical and dental sectors.


Samsung Electronics to buy VC-backed SmartThings

Samsung Electronics has agreed to acquire SmartThings. No financial terms were disclosed. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., SmartThings is a provider of a platform that connects the internet to everyday items. SmartThings’ backers include Greylock Partners, Highland Capital Partners, First Round Capital, SV Angel, Lerer Ventures, A-Grade and CrunchFund.


Samsung Unveils $100M Seed Fund, Vows To Expand Venture Investing

Samsung Electronics unveiled a $100 million seed fund to support innovation in components and subsystems related to its broad product line of televisions, cell phones, computers and other digital devices. The Korean manufacturer also said it plans to increase its corporate venture investing this year

Samsung and Handmark Form Mobile VC Fund

Samsung Electronics and VC-backed mobile app company Handmark are partnering to form a global venture capital fund that would invest in “market-changing game ideas for next generation Samsung mobile phones.” Each investment would be $250,000. Handmark backers include Apax Partners, Argnor Wireless Ventures,Borealis Ventures, Motorola Ventures and Village Ventures.
