Flare Capital unveils $200 mln fund, also appoints CFO

Flare Capital Partners has raised $200 million for its first healthcare tech-focused fund. The fund has already made investments in such companies as Iora Health, Predilytics and Valence Health. It also has invested in Rock Health‘s most recent seed fund. In addition to the fund, the firm has named Kristen Laguerre as partner and chief financial officer. Previously, Laguerre was a partner and CFO at Atlas Venture and vice president of finance at SoftBank Capital. Also, Flare has appointed Dr. Dan Gebremedhin as a senior associate.

Swirl Networks raises $18 mln

Swirl Networks said Thursday it raised $18 million in equity financing from Hearst Ventures, SoftBank Capital, Twitter Ventures and other strategic investors. Longworth Venture Partners also participated in the round. Boston-based Swirl is a provider of a proximity-based indoor mobile marketing platform. Swirl said it has raised $32 million in total funding to date.

Dering Hall pulls in $2.5 mln Series A

New York City-based Dering Hall, an online portal for high-end home furnishings, has closed $2.5 million in Series A funding. The investors included Hearst Magazines, Lerer Hippeau Ventures and SoftBank Capital. Also, Dering Hall has bought the assets of Doodle Home, a Detroit-based B2B software platform focused on the home and interior design sector. And, Jennifer Gilbert, a founder of Doodle Home, has been added to Dering Hall’s board of directors.

Union Square Ventures has led a $20 million growth investment in Work Market, which provides software-as-a-service for companies to help manage and pay freelance and independent contractors from a single platform. Other investors in the funding include Spark Capital, SoftBank Capital, Industry Ventures and Silicon Valley Bank.

Reonomy raises $13 mln, led by Bain Capital Ventures

New York-based Reonomy announced it has raised $13 million in a Series B round. Bain Capital Ventures led the funding, which includes existing investors SoftBank Capital, Resolute Ventures, High Peaks Venture Partners, KEC Ventures, FinTech Collective and Solon Mack Capital, the family office of William Mack, Richard Mack and Stephen Mack. Reonomy, which provides a data platform covering commercial real estate, has now raised about $18 million in total funding, including a $3.7 million Series A round raised last year. As part of the funding, Mike Krupka, managing director of Bain Capital Ventures, has joined the board.

GGV Capital has led a $13.5 million Series A funding in FlightCar, a peer-to-peer car sharing service operating at airports. Other participants in the funding include General Catalyst, SoftBank Capital and First Round Capital. Comcast Ventures and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin also invested. FlightCar has raised a total of $20 million to date, making co-founders Rujul Zaparde, 19, and Kevin Petrovic, 20, among the youngest entrepreneurs to have raised such large amounts of venture capital.

IVP leads $50 mln funding of xAd

Institutional Venture Partners has led a $50 million equity and debt funding round for xAd, which helps target mobile advertising using location data. Existing investors Emergence Capital Partners, Softbank Capital and Silicon Valley Bank also participated in the round. The New York-based company had previously raised about $22 million in funding, according to data from Thomson Reuters (publisher of peHUB). As part of the latest funding round, Dennis Phelps, a general partner at IVP, has joined the board.

Campise joins SoftBank

Marissa Campise has left Venrock to join SoftBank Capital as a partner. Her move was initially reported by re/code on June 6 and tweeted by SoftBank Partner Joe Medved here. Campise’s bio at SoftBank is available here. As previously reported by peHUB, Campise joined Venrock in 2011 from Greycroft Partners. Among the deals she was involved with while at Venrock included Klout, which was acquired by Lithium in March, and Burner, which raised $2 million in funding last year.
