Singapore online grocer RedMart rings up $26.7 mln

Singapore-based RedMart, an online grocer and marketplace, has secured $26.7 million in funding. The investors included Garena, SoftBank Ventures Korea, Visionnaire Ventures, Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and Far East Ventures. Also, RedMart has appointed Colin Bryar, a former vice president at Amazon, as chief operating officer.


MangoPlate raises another $6.1 mln

MangoPlate said Tuesday it close an additional $6.1 million in funding from Qualcomm Inc., through its venture investment group, Qualcomm Ventures. SoftBank Ventures Korea and YJ Capital, a venture capital firm established by Yahoo! JAPAN, also participated. Seoul-based MangoPlate helps people find restaurants through personalized restaurant recommendations. MangoPlate has raised over $7.2 million in total funding.


LocoMotive powers forward with $4 mln Series A

LocoMotive Labs, a Berkeley, Calif.-based developer of educational apps for young elementary students, has raised a $4 million Series A financing round co-led by Softbank Ventures Korea and TAL Education Group. Also participating in the round are existing investors K9 Ventures, Kapor Capital, NewSchools Venture Fund, Joe Gleberman, D3Jubilee and Jerry Colonna. The company has now raised $5.15 million in funding to date. As part of the Series A, Sean Lee of Softbank Ventures Korea has joined the board.


Edtech firm KnowRe fetches $6.8 mln

KnowRe has closed $6.8 million in funding. SoftBank Ventures Korea led the round with participation from other investors that included KTB Network Co., Partners Investment and SparkLabs Global Ventures. Based in New York and Seoul, KnowRe is an education tech firm.

KnowRe is a member of the first class of SparkLaps, a startup accelerator designed to support Korean entrepreneurs who are looking to grow their business outside of Korea.
