DroneDeploy snaps up $9 mln Series A

San Francisco-based commercial drone startup DroneDeploy has secured $9 million in Series A funding. Emergence Capital led the round with participation from previous investors SoftTech, DataCollective and Angelpad. In addition to the funding, Kevin Spain, a general partner at Emergence Capital, has been added to DroneDeploy’s board.

Twitter buys VC-backed Niche

Twitter has acquired Niche, the latter said in a blog post on its site. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in New York City and San Francisco, Niche is a startup that helps social media stars snag endorsement deals. Niche’s backers included SoftTech, Box Group, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, SV Angel, Advancit Capital and William Morris Endeavor. To read the announcement, visit here.



Hired attracts $15 mln Series B

Job marketplace Hired has closed $15 million in Series B funding. The investors were Silicon Valley Bank, Comcast Ventures, Lumia Capital, Crosslink Capital, Sierra Ventures, SoftTech and SherpaVentures. According to the firm, the capital will be used for growth and expansion.


MobileDay scores over $6 mln Series A

According to an announcement on its site, MobileDay has secured over $6 million in Series A funding. Foundry Group led the round with participation from Innoventure Partners, Drummond Road Capital, SoftBank, Google Ventures, Bullet Time Ventures and SoftTech. Niche rakes in $2.5 mln seed funds

According to the firm’s co-founder Rob Fishman, Niche, a network for social media creators, has raised $2.5 million in seed funding. SoftTech led the round with participation from Box Group, Lerer Ventures, SV Angel, Advancit Capital, William Morris Endeavor, Kevin Colleran and Gary Vaynerchuk. Niche is based in both New York and San Francisco.


Nokia Growth Partners leads $10 mln round for Gigwalk

Gigwalk has secured $10 million in Series B funding. Nokia Growth Partners led the round with participation from new backer Randstad Holding nv and previous investors August Capital, Harrison Metal and SoftTech. In addition to the funding, Paul Asel of NGP has been added to Gigwalk’s board. Based in San Francisco, Gigwalk is a local visibility software platform for consumer brands.

Tulip Retail raises $2.4m seed investment

Waterloo, Ontario based tech startup Tulip Retail has announced a $2.4 million investment led by SoftTech. Others investors include Founder Collective, BoxGroup, Lerer Ventures, iNovia, Promus Ventures, KIMA Ventures, Matt Mullenweg (founder of Wordpress), the founders of Bufferbox, and Greg Kidd (early investor in Twitter and advisor to Square).

isocket Secures $8m Series A led by Foundry

isocket has received $8 million in a Series A round of funding. Foundry Group led the investment. New investor Costanoa also joined with participation from seed investors DFJ, SoftTech, Accelerator, Quest and Blumberg Capital.
