Yummly acquires VC-backed The Orange Chef

Yummly has acquired San Francisco-based The Orange Chef, a smart nutrition scale developer. No financial terms were disclosed. Also, Yummy has named Santiago Merea as its first chief revenue officer. Previously, Merea was CEO and founder of Orange Chef. Yummly is backed by Bauer Venture Partners, Physic Ventures, Unilever Corporate Ventures, First Round Capital, Harrison Metal Capital and Intel Capital. The Orange Chef’s backers included Melo7 Tech Partners, Google Ventures, SparkLabs Global Ventures, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, Kima Ventures, The Social+Capital Partnership and Graph Ventures.


SparkLabs partners with Songdo to launch new IoT accelerator

SparkLabs, a startup accelerator in Asia, has partnered with the so-called “smart city” Songdo International Business District, a private development project in South Korea, to launch a new Internet of Things accelerator in early 2015. Songdo is a connected city in South Korea, being built on 1,500 acres. This will be SparkLabs’ second accelerator program, following the organization’s flagship operation in Seoul. Co-founder Bernard Moon told peHUB the firm’s accelerator program has to date had 22 graduates (79 percent of which have received follow-on funding) and SparkLabs is on its fourth class, featuring 10 companies. He said SparkLabs is considering opening accelerator programs in other locations in Asia and Europe.
