J.P. Morgan leads $140 mln funding of AppDirect

San Francisco-based AppDirect, a provide of cloud services to power ecommerce, announced it has raised $140 million in funding led by J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Also participating in the round are Foundry Group, iNovia Capital, Mithril Capital Management, StarVest Partners and Stingray Digital. Since the company was founded in 2009, it has now raised $245 million in total funding, including an $8.5 million Series A round in 2012.


VC-backed Receivables Exchange appoints Toffey as CEO

New York City-based Receivables Exchange, an electronic marketplace that sells accounts receivable, has hired James W. Toffey as CEO. Previously, Toffey worked at GFI. Receivables Exchange is backed by Bain Capital Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Prism VentureWorks and StarVest Partners.


RetailNext snags $125 mln

San Jose, California-based RetailNext Inc, a provider of in-store retail analytics, has raised $125 million in funding. Activant Capital Group led the round with participation from other investors that included August Capital, StarVest Partners, Nokia Growth Partners, Commerce Ventures, American Express, Pereg Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures and Siguler Guff & Company. In addition to the funding, Activant’s Steve Sarracino, has been added to RetailNext’s board of directors.


StarVest leads $21 mln Series B funding in Persado

StarVest Partners has led a $21 million Series B funding round in Persado, which automates persuasive language used in digital marketing and other applications. Other participants in the funding round include Citi Ventures, American Express Ventures and existing investor Bain Capital Ventures.

TD Ameritrade appoints StarVest’s Bettino to board

Online broker TD Ameritrade has added Larry Bettino and Todd Ricketts to its board of directors. Bettino is a managing member of StarVest Partners and Ricketts is a director of Chicago Baseball Holding, the holding company for the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball franchise. Bettino’s appointment is effective immediately while Ricketts will begin on January 1, 2015.


Host Analytics picks up $25 mln in Centerview-led round

Silicon Valley-based Host Analytics, a provider of enterprise performance management solutions, has closed $25 million in funding. Centerview Capital Technology led the round with participation from return backers Advanced Technology Ventures, Next World Capital, StarVest Partners and Trident Capital. In addition to the funding, Ned Hooper, founding partner of Centerview Capital Technology, has been added to Host Analytics’ board of directors.


Safeguard Scientifics leads $11 mln Series D funding in Transactis

Safeguard Scientifics has led an $11 million Series D funding round in Transactis, which provides electronic billing and payment solutions. Other participants in the funding round include existing investors StarVest Partners, senior management and the board. To date, Transactis has raised a total of $40 million from investors including Metamorphic Ventures, Vermont Information Processing and Harland Clarke.


Bubble-era funds still struggle for gains: VCJ

Venture distributions have been up nicely for the past couple of years, with returns coming not just to contemporary funds but to those from bubble-era vintages that often badly need them.
Still, progress is slow in many cases.


NGP leads $30 mln round for RetailNext

RetailNext, a San Jose, Calif. provider of retail analytics, said Tuesday that it has raised $30 million in funding. Nokia Growth Partners led the round with participation from Activant Capital Group, August Capital, StarVest Partners, Commerce Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Tyco and American Express.


StarVest Partners leads Series B round for CrowdTwist

CrowdTwist has raised $9 million in Series B funding. StarVest Partners led the round with participation from return backers that included Fairhaven Capital and SoftBank Capital. Based in New York City, CrowdTwist is a omnichannel loyalty and analytics solutions provider.

Ceros inks $6.2mln Series B

Ceros has secured $6.2 million in a Series B round venture capital investment. The investment was made by Sigma Prime Ventures, Starvest Partners and Greycroft Partners. Ceros is an interactive content creation platform.

Host Analytics Inks $17m Series D

Cloud-based enterprise performance management provider Host Analytics has closed $17 million in Series D venture financing. The round was fully financed by the company’s existing investors Advanced Technology Ventures, Trident Capital, StarVest Partners and Next World Capital.

Veracode Acquires Marvin Mobile Security

strong>Veracode, a cloud-based application security testing company, has acquired the assets of Marvin Mobile Security, a developer of a mobile application analysis service for enterprises, app stores and mobile carriers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Veracode is backed by Meritech Capital Partners, Atlas Venture, .406 Ventures and StarVest Partners.

NewComLink Names Terence Spielman CTO

The four-year-old, Austin-based software startup NewComLink has appointed Terence Spielman as CTO. Spielman was most recently a senior director and general manager for PayPal’s Austin office.
