VC-backed Udemy hires two VPs

San Francisco-based online education marketplace Udemy has appointed Robert Wong as vice president of product and Grégory Boutté as vice president of content. Previously, Wong worked at Sidecar where he served as vice president of product while Boutté most recently worked as vice president of eBay Motors & Electronics for eBay North America. Udemy’s backers include Stripes Group, Norwest Venture Partners, Insight Venture Partners, Lightbank, MHS Capital and Learn Capital.


Stripes Group invests in GoFundMe

The Stripes Group said Wednesday that it has invested in GoFundMe. Investors including Technology Crossover Ventures, Accel Partners, Greylock Partners, ICONiQ Capital and Meritech also participated. San Diego-based GoFundMe is a crowdfunding site for personal causes.


Stripes Group leads Series D round for Udemy

San Francisco-based online education marketplace Udemy has secured $65 million in Series D funding. Stripes Group led the round with participation from Norwest Venture Partners and Insight Venture Partners. In conjunction with the funding, Ken Fox, a founder and managing partner of Stripes Group, has been added to Udemy’s board of directors.


Online workplace Elance-oDesk grabs $30 mln

Mountain View, Calif.-based online workplace Elance-oDesk has received $30 million in funding. Benchmark led the round with participation from other investors that included T. Rowe Price, FirstMark, Sigma West, NEA and the Stripes Group.


Stripes Group closes SG Growth Partners III

Stripes Group has closed its third institutional fund vehicle, SG Growth Partners III. The fund attracted $500 million of commitments from institutional investors reaching both its target and hard-cap.

Accel Partners and Stripes Group back stock media firm Pond5

Pond5, a New York-based online marketplace for video footage and stock photos, said Wednesday that it has secured $61 million in financing. The investors were Accel Partners and Stripes Group. According to the firm, the capital infusion will be used for growth, hiring and product development.


VC-backed Refinery29 hires Zalaznick as strategic advisor

New York-based media company Refinery29 has hired Lauren Zalaznick as a strategic advisor. Recently, Zalaznick served as executive vice president at NBCUniversal. Refinery29’s backers include Stripes Group, FLOODGATE, First Round, Hearst Corp., Lerer Ventures and Eastern Capital.


Blue Apron racks up $50 mln

Blue Apron said Wednesday that it has closed $50 million in funding. Stripes Group led the round with participation from previous investors that included Bessemer Venture Partners and First Round Capital. According to the firm, the capital infusion will be used for growth. Based in New York, Blue Apron is a delivery service of fresh ingredients for home-cooked meals.

Stripes Group Backs Audio Network

Stripes Group has made a significant minority investment in Audio Network, a London-based, international music platform that specializes in providing music for film, television, advertisements and online video use on a subscription basis. Stripes Group acquired an approximate 27 percent equity stake in Audio Network with the majority of its stake purchased from early angel investors.

Stripes Group Completes MyWebGrocer Sale

Stripes Group, a technology and consumer focused growth equity firm, has sold the entire stake held by SG Growth Partners I, L.P. in MyWebGrocer, a provider of digital marketing solutions for grocery stores and global consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies. As part of the private transaction, HGGC, a middle market private equity firm, completed a growth equity investment in the company.
