MetaBrand Capital and actor Channing Tatum back beverage maker Runa

Brooklyn, NY-based Amazonian beverage maker Runa has secured $5.75 million from MetaBrand Capital. Other investors in this round included Mark Rampolla, founder of Zico; Brian Krumrei, managing director at TSG Consumer Partners; actor Channing Tatum; and Jon Fishman, drummer for the band Phish.


Alexander Panos to leave TSG to start own firm

TSG Consumer Partners general partner and managing director Alexander Panos has decided to leave the firm to start his own private equity fund. Panos joined TSG as an associate in 1998 and was named managing director in 2004. In 2007, he moved from TSG’s San Francisco office to the New York office. Panos didn’t reveal details of his future plans.


TSG to invest in Pabst

TSG Consumer Partners is planning on acquiring a minority stake in LA-based Pabst Brewing Company. TSG will team up with Oasis Beverages on the transaction. No financial terms were disclosed. Ropes & Gray represented TSG on the deal.

TSG names partner and principal

TSG Consumer Partners has promoted Jennifer Baxter Moser to managing director and partner, and Dan Costello to principal.
Moser joined TSG nearly seven years ago and Costello joined the firm in 2007.

TSG Consumer Partners has taken a minority stake in My Fit Foods. Financial terms were not announced. Houston-based My Fit Foods is a retail outlet that provides fresh, healthy foods at affordable prices.

Katie Holmes Invests in Alterna

Alterna Haircare, which is backed by TSG Consumer Partners, said Tuesday that Katie Holmes has invested in the company. Alterna did not disclose how much Holmes invested or how big of a stake she has. Alterna provides “luxury” haircare products such as anti-frizz conditioners and shampoos.

In the private equity world, how fast is fast?

TSG Consumer Partners announced today it raised $1.3 billion for its sixth fund, TSG6 LP. That was about 30% more than the firm’s $1 billion target, says James O’Hara, a TSG MD. The PE firm, which has offices in San Francisco and New York, had about $1 billion in additional interest, O’Hara says.

“We were humbled by the level of interest we had,” he says.

TSG Consumer Partners Closes Fund with $1.3B

TSG Consumer Partners has closed its sixth fund, TSG6 L.P., with $1.3 billion in commitments, the firm announced Wednesday. San Francisco-based TSG Consumer Partners focuses on investments in middle-market consumer companies in sectors spanning food, beverage, personal care and household products.
