Drone platform provider Skyward announces $4.1 mln seed expansion

SkyWard, a Portland, Ore.-based company that has developed a software management system for the dispatching, tracking and logging of commercial drone flights, announced it has raised a $4.1 million round in expansion seed from Draper Associates, Founders Co-Op, Norwest Venture Partners, Techstars Ventures, Verizon Ventures, and Voyager Capital. Voyager prevously led a $1.5 million seed round in July 2014, according to Thomson Reuters. David Famolari of Verizon Ventures and Ari Newman of Techstars Ventures were named observers on Skyward’s board of directors.

Highland Capital, Mesirow and DCM Ventures back CENX

CENX, a provider of service orchestration solutions for software-defined networks, has secured an undisclosed amount of funding. The investors were return backers Highland Capital Partners, Mesirow Financial Private Equity Inc, Verizon Ventures, Ericsson, DCM Ventures and Cross Creek Advisors.


Urban Airship picks up $21 mln

Urban Airship, a provider of customer engagement solutions for brands, has closed $21 million in Series D funding. The investors included August Capital, Foundry Group, Franklin Park Associates, QuestMark Partners, True Ventures and Verizon Ventures. Also, the company has named Erin Hintz as chief marketing officer and Mike Musson as senior vice president of strategy and business development.


Sequoia leads $12 mln Series B funding in Rounds

Live communication platform Rounds has raised $12 million in Series B funding. Sequoia Capital led the round with participation from other investors that included Samsung Ventures, Verizon Ventures, Rhodium and Draper Associates. According to the firm, the capital infusion will be used for growth and expansion.


Apio calls up Series A funding led by Verizon Ventures

Apio Systems, which provides a mobile-based transportation safety platform, announced it has raised a $5 million Series A round led by Verizon Ventures, the investment arm of Verizon Communications. Additional investors include Lerer Hippeau, Transdev and East Rock Capital. Apio Systems, which has offices in Crystal City, Va., and Warwick, N.Y., has now raised more than $6 million in total funding.


Flint Mobile bags $9.4 mln in Verizon Ventures-led round

Flint Mobile has raised $9.4 million in Series C funding. Verizon Ventures, the investing arm of mobile and broadband provider Verizon Communications, led the round with participation from Digicel, Storm Ventures, True Ventures and Peninsula Ventures. Based in Redwood City, Calif., Flint Mobile is a mobile payment service for small businesses.


AdStage nabs $6.25 mln Series A

Ad tech startup AdStage has closed $6.25 million in Series A funding. The investors were Verizon Ventures, Digital Garage, Newbury Ventures, Freestyle Capital, Chris Noble and Neal Dempsey of Bay Partners.

MobileRQ bags $1.3 mln

MobileRQ said Wednesday that it has received $1.3 million in funding. The investors were Verizon Ventures, Coremix Capital, Rogue Ventures and TiE Oregon. Based in Portland, Oregon, MobileRQ is a mobile marketing platform provider.


Glympse raises additional $12 mln in Series C funding

Glympse, a location sharing technology company, has raised an additional $12 million in Series C financing, with participation from new investors UMC Capital, Verizon Ventures and additional unnamed strategic investors. Existing investors Ignition Partners, Menlo Ventures and Naya Ventures also participated in the funding round. The investment brings total capital raised to about $20 million.

Newlans calls on Verizon Ventures for $5 mln

Newlans, a developer of radio frequency solutions for mobile devices, has raised an additional $5 million from Verizon Ventures to complete its Series B round. In February, the Acton, Mass.-based company raised $15 million in a Series B funding round led by Intel Capital and including Paladin Capital Management and Lockheed Martin Corp. The company has now raised $27 million in equity funding, according to Thomson Reuters (publisher of peHUB).

Kiip Gets Backing from Japanese Internet Giant Digital Garage

Mobile rewards network Kiip has secured financing from Japanese Internet business Digital Garage. The strategic investor joins the company’s most recent $11 million round of Series B funding. The company is backed by Relay Ventures, Hummer Winblad, True Ventures, Verizon Ventures, Crosslink Capital and others.

VC-Backed LocalResponse Launches Public Beta
