Visterra closes $30 mln Series B

Biotechnology company Visterra has completed a $30 million Series B financing round. The round was co-led by new Visterra investors Merck Research Labs Venture Fund, Vertex Venture Holdings and Temasek. Existing investors Polaris Partners, Flagship Ventures, Omega Funds and Alexandria Venture Investments and a new investor Cycad Group also participated.


GrabTaxi secures venture backing

GrabTaxi, an automated smart-phone taxi booking platform has secured backing from investors including Vertex Venture Holdings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings. A group of angel investors from Malaysia are also providing financial support for the start-up.


Lightspeed China Partners Backs Meilele Series B

Lightspeed China Partners, a China-focused venture capital firm, has backed the Series B financing round of Meilele, an online retailer of self-branded furniture in China. Innovalight Inks $3.4M From DOE

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Innovalight Inc., which sells silicon ink and advanced solar cell process technology, has inked $3.4 million in funding under the SunShot initiative by the U.S. Department of Energy. The money will help the company accelerate the development and production of silicon ink material and processes for high efficiency solar cells. With more than $63 million raised previously, Innovalight is also backed by EDB Investments of Singapore, Vertex Venture Holdings, Apax Partners, ARCH Venture Partners, Convexa Capital, Harris & Harris Group, Sevin Rosen Funds and Triton Ventures.
