CENX rakes in $12.5 mln Series D

CENX, a provider of service orchestration solutions for software-defined networks, has secured $12.5 million in Series D funding. The investors were BDC Capital, Mistral Venture Partners, VMware, Highland Capital Partners, Mesirow Financial Private Equity Inc, Verizon Ventures, Ericsson, DCM Ventures and Cross Creek Advisors.

Cloud security automation company HyTrust picks up $33 mln

Mountain View, California-based cloud security automation company HyTrust Inc has raised $33 million in funding. Accelerate-IT Ventures led the round with participation from other investors that included Vanedge Capital, Epic Ventures, Granite Ventures, Trident Capital, Cisco, Fortinet, Intel Corp and VMware. In addition to the funding, HyTrust has added Brian Nugent, a general partner at AITV, to its board of directors while AITV co-founder and General Partner Bill Malloy III, and Moe Kermani, a partner at Vanedge Capital, have been named as board observers.


Red Hat to acquire VC-backed FeedHenry

Red Hat has agreed to buy FeedHenry, an enterprise mobile application platform provider, for about 63.5 million euros in cash. FeedHenry’s backers include Intel Capital, ACT Venture Capital, Kernel Capital, VMware and Enterprise Ireland.


JFrog grabs $7 mln Series B

JFrog said Wednesday that it has raised $7 million in Series B round funding. The investors included VMware and Gemini Ventures. Based in Israel and Calif., Jfrog provides tools for software developers.


Puppet Labs raises $40 mln from venture backers

Cisco, Google Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Triangle Venture Capital Group, True Ventures and VMware have invested $40 million in Puppet Labs, which provides IT automation software. The funding brings total venture capital raised to $86 million since June 2009. Puppet Labs also added Mukesh Sharma as vice president of sales, EMEA.

Redpoint Adds Two EIRs From VMware

Redpoint Ventures brought on two VMware executives as entrepreneurs in residence, TechCrunch reports. Javier Soltero was CTO of SaaS & application services at VMware before joining the firm, according to a bio posted on the Redpoint Web site. He came to VMware after the company he co-founded, Hyperic, was acquired by SpringSource, which was acquired by VMware.

FeedHenry Raises $9M From Intel, ACT, Kernel, VMware, Others

FeedHenry said it raised $9 million in a round led by Intel Capital and joined by new investor ACT Venture Capital and existing investors Kernel Capital, VMware Inc. and Enterprise Ireland. Private investors also participated. The new funding will support the international expansion of the company’s mobile application platform.

WSJ: VMWare In Talks To Buy Part Of Novell

(Reuters) – VMware Inc (VMW.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) is in advanced talks to buy Novell Inc’s (NOVL.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) Linux operating system business, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The paper reported that private equity-backed software company Attachmate Corp [WIZARA.UL] could buy some or all of Novell’s remaining assets.

VMware Buys Systems-Monitoring Startup Integrien for $100M

(VentureBeat) — Virtualization giant VMware announced today that it has acquired an IT analytics startup called Integrien for $100 million.

Irvine, Calif.-based Integrien offers systems monitoring software, similar to IBM’s Tivoli, with an emphasis on up-to-the-minute information about problems with your infrastructure. Microsoft’s Sidekick unit signed up as a customer to make sure it doesn’t have another outage like it did last fall. Itegrien was funded by Clearstone Venture Partners, Tech Coast Angels, Acartha Group, and Mariner Capital Ventures, most recently in an $8 million round announced in May.
